2019 Hens Lax

Post by LILax » Wed May 30, 2018 5:17 pm

Baltimore Sun has the Hens in the top 20 for the 2019 season in the "Premature men's lacrosse rankings" below.

The article says that the Hens lose two starters in Will Hirschmann and Dean DiSimone. But from everything I have heard, Dean is coming back for his fifth year. That means 9 returning starters and a pretty deep defensive bench.

Liam Duff is no longer a Blue Hen.

I heard that news too. He was a talented kid. But fortunately, the Hens have a bunch of depth at close defense.

Best guess on the 2019 season schedule:

2/9 Mount St. Mary's (A)
2/16 NJIT (A)
2/23 Monmouth (H)
2/27 St. Joseph's (H)
3/2 Villanova (A)
3/5 Mercer (H)
3/9 Binghamton (H)
3/16 Johns Hopkins (H)
3/23 Michigan (A)

CAA portion could be very different order but based on last year:

3/30 Fairfield (A)
4/06 Hofstra (H)
4/13 Towson (H)
4/20 UMass (A)
4/27 Drexel (A)

Hens playing fall ball exhibitions in Philly at Penn on Oct 21st 2018. Syracuse 9am, Lafayette 11am

That's all I got.

Great to start 2-0 with two road games any way you slice it. This team should not have an issue beating Monmouth next week, St Joes could also be entering the following matchup 3-0 and they’ve shown they can score so far this year. Let’s continue to improve and make sure we enter 4-0 with a trip to Villanova to start March. Pretty balanced scoring two games in and we have a special one in goal who will keep us in every single game.

Man, there must be 10 coin-toss games on the schedule. This season could go in a lot of directions. I suppose that's true for half of the country. Would be nice to beat Hopkins. They look awful so far.

I wouldn't call Hopkins awful yet. We'll have to let things play out a little longer. I'm hopeful that their losses to Towson and Loyola are due to the opponents being very good. If that is the case, it bodes well for the Hens as the Hens led Mt St Mary's 10-5 after 3 quarters at Emmitsburg while Towson led the Mountaineers by a similar score, 10-4 after 3 quarters, also at Emmitsburg. The Hens got outscored 3-1 by Mt St Mary's in the 4th quarter and gave the Mountaineers a glimmer of hope, leading 10-7 with 8 minutes remaining but Towson never saw their lead drop below 5 in the 4th quarter.

I said they looked awful. No reason they'll actually be awful. Got real issues in the midfield, though. I hear the poles are supposed to be good. Haven't looked it. I do believe in the kids up front, though I'm not a fan of a couple of them personally. Jays are great at complaining, cheap hits, and celebrating goals. Less good at playing anywhere near decent teams. Loyola toyed with them. Not sure who the leader is supposed to be. That could get ugly if someone doesn't step up.

I don't know Dave Pietramala's contract situation but I assume if he is not already on the hot seat, he will be if things don't turn around. They play a brutal schedule, always have, so if they have a down year, their record will be brutal.
