Season in Jeopardy

Post by bluehenbillk » Wed Mar 11, 2020 3:21 pm

The Ivy League just cancelled all spring sports seasons. There were four ranked Ivy teams that were just told season over boys....

This is very concerning. I fear that many conferences will follow the Ivy leagues lead. Ugh. Typical Ivy league. Always have to show they're the smartest in the room.

Yes, other conferences are discussing the same thing. Season (and all spring sports) may be cancelled.

The season goes on for our spring sports teams, but without spectators.

So, the threat of my presence on the berm at a baseball game, or in Delaware Stadium for a lacrosse game, is now alleviated.

Sleep well, knowing this.

It ia also the threat of you potentially getting infected at UD or anywhere else and then infecting others at UD or elsewhere that thas now been alleviated. First time since 1978 that i will not see most UD Baseball asw & Men's Lax games. as well as some FB scrimmages/practices & the Spring FB game. I am not happy about it but recognize the prudence of this measure.

Of course, you are correct. I gave a flippant response.

The UD Board shuts down live classes for the "safety" of the students, yet allows hundreds of athletes to remain on campus who
live & practice in close quarters, shower together, travel in busses & vans, etc, etc, etc...

Where is the concern for the student-athletes health?

Devil's advocate here. So, if they already live together, what is the harm if they play and practice together?
Keepin' it real.

Serious question: How is attending a lacrosse game at Delaware Stadium (assuming folks are required to spread out; and god knows there's room to spread out at Delaware lacrosse games) any different from, say, walking down the street?

Excellent point. The Patriot League, which can be defined as the wanna-be Ivies anyway, have followed the Ivy lead & also cancelled their spring sports seasons.

The sad truth is that the only difference is that UD can't be sued if someone catches this thing walking down the street.

With the Patriot League cancelling their season, 3 more ranked teams are done in Loyola, Army and Lehigh. All of the sudden the Hens are climbing the rankings again! But in all seriousness, the way things are going I would be extremely surprised if the NCAA does not cancel all activity. Hoping they don't, but i would not be surprised.

and it's over...at least for now as UD cancels all spring sports schedules with the rest of the CAA
