Sullivan and Walter were the starters. Sullivan has to be one of the fastest college pitchers in the country. There won't be many hitters that can catch up to his fastball.

Thanks EC.

So would you want him to be the front end starter or get a lead in 6th or 7th and have him close it down? Me personally, I want him to close it down. We have enough starters on the weekend that can us a lead and him the ball to close it especially come conference time.

I am excited for this team

I would absolutely want him to start. As a closer in college during a conference series, there are many weekends where he would only get in one game. To me, that's wasting a quality arm. This team's weakness, at least going into the season, will be scoring runs, which means there are times that the Hens don't have a lead late in the game, do you pitch him then? Now there could be times that they could have a five or six run lead late, do you bring him in then? Also, if you bring him in the 7th on Friday, he might be done for the weekend, or maybe he doesn't pitch on Friday, and you bring in on Saturday, can he come back on Sunday?

The goal is always to win 2 games in a conference series. While I really like the pitching staff, I like our odds of winning 2 if Sullivan and Walter are starting, better than Walter and two other guys starting. Now I'm optimistically hoping that Walter is back to his pre-injury form, but Sullivan and Walter are absolute studs, and they both have the ability to shut down any team. We haven't had a one-two punch like this in many, many years.

Our weekend starters could be Ludman, Walter and Sullivan. That's a great rotation for the weekend.

Talking to Sherman in December he said Walter was back and throwing as well as ever before.

Closers are important, but starters get more innings in a conference weekend, and we need Walter, Sullivan, and Ludman to get as many innings as possible. We will need a couple other pitchers to step up because those guys will not ordinarily pitch 9 innings. As for hitting, Baker and Molholland have proven they can run and hit. All the power hitters are gone, so the highly touted transfer Goan will have to step up, Hutchins and Bowren have another year under their belts so they should be solid hitters in the lineup We need a freshman or two to contribute. It's a rare year that more than one true freshman is ready to hit well enough to start. Buglio looks like he may be ready.

How deep is our staff now? Like I think we need 5 quality arms [3 for the weekend and 2 for weekday] plus reliable arms to throw on the weekend.

There are quite a few freshmen pitchers on the roster, I think they will need at least one or two to step up. I also noticed that they only have 2 left-handed pitchers on the roster, one of them being Walter. That will limit them when it comes to late game moves.

2 Days until the opening weekend. Any ideas of the rotation we are going to use? I know its Walter, Sullivan and Ludman but in what order.

A good guess for the starting rotation would be Sullivan, Walter, and Ludman in that order. The harder question is who will start at catcher, left field and first base?

Does BW have any inning counts or limits? I would think he would or should especially in his February starts when its cold.

I would say 3-4 innings or 55-65 pitches at most. TJ is hard to come back from and no need to push it early. Think big picture and conference games.

That would be my guess too. I expect Goan to play, but not sure if will be at first or catching. If he's good enough defensively, the coaches will have him catch, so they can add another bat at first. Left field looks to be wide open with 4 or 5 young guys competing for playing time. I'm sure the coaching staff has narrowed that down from seeing them in the fall and now preseason, but pretty sure they all will get a chance early.

Wish the roster would show if they hit from the right or left side of the plate.

The lineup for today:

1.) Mohollen - CF
2.) Baker - RF
3.) Hutchins - 3B
4.) Goan - DH
5.) Miller - C
6.) DiFebbo - LF
7.) Carpenter - 1B
8.) Bowren - 2B
9.) Vaccone - SS
Sullivan - P

From Twitter - Hens up 2-0 after 1 but through 5 they are down 1 [3-2]. Joey Silan with 3 shutout innings in his debut - I assume that means that Sullivan got rocked and only got through 2 innings.

Control issues this early is some what expected. Tough loss but time to bounce back in Game 2.
