We are last in the conference in stolen bases with a total of 30. Charleston leads the conference with 92 stolen bases. Colmery, #9 in our batting order, leads the team in batting average and is fourth overall in the conference in on base percentage. Why not move him up in the order?

I can't believe how Jekyll and Hyde this team is. One game they look great and unbeatable, the next they look like they can get beat by a hs school team.

I love hearing Sherman says it one bad inning or one bad play that compounds another bad play. If that's the case, why not bench the players who making those mental mistakes.

As far as the lineup, I am glad to see some consistency but would agree that some changes need to be made at the top. Maybe put Austin C at 1 and Kevin M at 2 then move everyone else down. They have to start generating some offense.

Lastly, are they going to be make the CAA playoffs? They are 6th overall and tied for 5th in the conference

Of course, whether we make the playoffs depends not only on what we do in the remaining 9 games, but also on how other teams vying for the last couple of spots fare. In order to get one of the 6 spots, we probably have to win at least 5 of the 9 remaining conference games. Maybe 4 if we are lucky. If we get swept at UNCW this weekend, our chances are very slim. With Walter on the mound, our best shot is in the Friday game. Goan needs to get hot and launch a couple over the fence.

Hens have taken the first two from UNCW. Game 3 has now been moved to today.

They take the series. Great game 2 start from Joey Silan with Ludman is now working out of the pen [he pitched the 9th].

Game 3 he got a lot of arms some work but a few just couldn't get the necessary outs and get shelled. On to the next series and keep building the momentum for next weekend.

A surprising and much needed series victory over UNCW on the road. That improves our chances, but it is still too tight to call on the playoffs. Hofstra took one from Elon, so we will need to beat Hofstra at least two out of three next weekend. We may very well need the tiebreaker. And the last series is against talented Charleston, the team with the best overall record in the league. Sherman needs to nail down our third starter - Ludman or Dubecq.

EC we still need to find our number 2 starter. We have Walter then a bunch a question marks. I think Silan can be what Ludman was last year but like you said we need to find a 3 and lock them in.

Elon has the best CAA record by far at 18-3. Charleston is in second, just barely ahead of the pack at 10-8. In their last two series Charleston lost 2 of 3 to UNCW at home and all 3 to Wm & Mary away. So Charleston is vulnerable. UD's biggest problem right now is the lack of a reliable 3rd conference starter. If my memory is correct Ludman filled that role very well as a true Fr last season but he has really struggled this year. Ludman got shelled in his one inning of relief in the 2nd game vs. UNCW So what is Ludman's problem this year? Mechanics? So. jinx? Dubecq didn't fare very well or last very long as the starter in Game 3 at UNCW. Who will and who should start the 3rd game vs Hofstra?

BlueHenBill, I said Charleston had the best overall record in the league, not the best conference record. But agree they have shown some vulnerability as of late. I would start Silan in Game 2 again, and then start Ludman in Game 3 and hope he returns to form. He can throw strikes. Go to Dubecq if he gets in trouble. Dubecq has a great pickoff move and can help our catchers hold the Flying Dutchmen and Charleston speedsters at bay.

East Coaster, I agree, start Silan in game 2, he's been throwing well the last few times out. I would also start Ludman in game 3 and then go to Dubecq. Not sure what is going on with Ludman, he started the year throwing very well the first few innings of games, and then having a real bad inning, but lately he has really struggled. They have to win the Hofstra series.

Lost the first 2 to Hofstra....

A crappy start to the year and listed as “doubtful” for the CAA tourney :(

4 games left to turn it around - figure at minimum they’ll need 3 of them.

They need to win the next two since the took the L last night.

Disappointed in this team and their inconsistencies.

When they needed to win 4 or 5 out of 6 but instead they dropped 5 out of 6. Not a good way to end the season.

Jack yesterday had some bad luck in the 9th where two errors hurt him but Juan or Sherm never came to settle him down. The only time they came out was to change pitchers.

The other problem I had was yesterday’s game didn’t matter but no seniors played at all. I didn’t expect Walter to play but it would have been nice for Matt Rykaczewski to start at catcher and have Cole throw an inning or two.

Pretty dismal season. In addition to the W-L record and next to last place in the CAA, the stats are pathetic, especially the pitching. And the roster was way out of balance filled with 14 freshman and 18 kids from Delaware. Now I am a life long Delaware resident and like to see local kids play at UD. But 18 is ridiculous. Don’t know if Sherman has a limited recruiting budget or what else is going on, but a roster like that will have trouble winning. A buddy of mine is a good friend of Sherman and when he talked to him this week, he said he thought he could be fired. Kinda tough one season removed from an NCAA tournament but I wouldn’t be surprised.

One good season doesn't make up for the 4-5 bad seasons we have had recently.

I don't think its budget concerns but Sherms not having the connections. FH can get players from Europe, softball has kids from CA and AZ. Baseball has players from DE, Juco or PA. They have no one from VA, NJ or NY all within driving distance of DE. Its not hard to go to summer showcases in those states and starting following kids. Just did a quick google search and Old Dominion and Liberty both have showcases in June for kids in 2020 to 2023. Both are within a 5-6 hour drive.
They have Juan who should have some connections in FL, use those to your advantage.

If Sherm is let go, who do we bring in? Would Tripp leave Potomoc to go back to college and be closer to Caravel where his son plays? Would we try to lure Brian from Wilm College or do we go big stage like we have with our other hires [Martin, Adair, Steele, etc]
