Amachi came out of obscurity for me, but great for him. Gilmore at RG was a little surprising. Covatto over Ashworth was a surprise, but I suspect they wanted a little more weight in the middle. We discussed that a lot last year, but Ashworth stuck. He played hard and I thought better as the season went on. Mauro at KAT surprised me a little too. I like Mauro a lot and hope he plays well. I think he may have put himself in the doghouse last year after with a 15 yard penalty call at a key time in one of the games.
Pretty ignorant post considering Ashworth was the #1 returning tackler. He will be a major contributor this season as he was last.
Ashworth is still a very good football player. A lot of rotations will be realized on the DLine and I am sure he will still be an integral part of the Defensive plans.
And THAT is exactly why I was surprised at the Depth Chart- because Ashworth played so well. I have no doubt that he will part of a regular rotation at that position. Just wan't where he seemed to be on the Chart last year. There is an earlier post in this threat that discussed his weight and questions thereof. Anyone jump on that person and call the post ignorant?

What exactly is your problem? You are the Board Bully. Read the post. I like Ashworth and am more than glad to see him back. I liked the way he played last year. Got a really great view of his play at Stonybrook last year and liked what I saw. Read the post. Again, what is your problem?

My problem may be eyesight. You're right I thought you said he stunk !. My apologies.

No problem. I loved the way he played and think it is great that we have that competition. Bilal Nichols was a tough act to follow. That Depth Chart says something great- we have talented depth at the position.

WOW, calm down y'all. Lets let things play out and see what happens. The way we substitute and rotate being a sub doesn't always translate to playing significantly less in some spots. Ashworth was with the 1's most of the summer practices I was at but a lot of guys were playing.

Every list/chart needs a starting point. I am positive this depth chart will definitely change prior to game #2, and more than likely, occasionally through out the season (due to “dings”, motivation, etc.)
Things will play themselves out on the field. It takes a “team” to fulfill the “dream.” Blue Hens swat the Hornets! Wayne Hanby

The other surprise for me was Stevon Brown not being second on the depth chart. He has good size and was well regarded coming out of high school. Maybe he's dinged up a little.

It's kind of...odd, that Rocco lists 12 positions on each side of the ball on depth charts.

However, the real thing to take notice of is how dangerously thin the OL is, at least on paper. I am sure if there's an injury they would probably slide Mario or Chuka around but Cathers and Nixon are 2's?

55% - 45% split between the defensive front four 1s & 2s the first 2 weeks is my bet. And not always the same 4 on the field at the same time. We’ve seen a lot of different combinations this month.

Nixon's play has to be the surprise of the preseason. He deserves his status.

Didn't even realize he was even playing on the OL until a few days ago.

Our base defense is the 4-3. However, sometimes we will use a 3-4. IMO, the listing of 12 defensive positions takes the 3-4 into consideration.

I also believe that the sets where the offense uses a FB or a blocking H-Back is shown when the 12th offensive position is sited.

good point Ron I believe, once Rocco and staff have figured who the "best" are, that flexibility with personnel will determine our season as well as the schemes on O and D that are effective against who we face each week. Here's hoping!!!

Question: How long has DE Brandan Hall been practicing full time? I though he was still being held out.

I haven't been since Monday and he was not practicing then and hadn't been dressed for some time prior. We'll see Thursday who is playing where but there's plenty of contradictions on the official depth chart as compared to who has been participating on the field. Others may have more current observations.

Coach commented that #44 hasn't played on field in 3 weeks but a decision will be made on Thursday.

That confirms to me that the official depth chart is not so official.
