The one move I have been asking for has finally happened. I hope we get a DC that is aggresive and can teach blitz schemes.

Obviously, didn’t want the new linebacker coach. Resigned for family reasons. Really?

Ron- what you're asking for is the definition of a DC- isn't it

hopefully none of our recruits will be unhappy and possibly bolt- don't expect that to be an issue. frankly, I expect they'll be pleased/elated.

Shortly after the end of last season. a fair number of posters were calling for new DC, Ol Coach, & DL Coach (if not HC) hirings ASAP. I had posted then that (short of an unlikely Rocco firing until at least next season) you probably wouldn't see such changes (if any) until after the Feb FB signings to reduce the chances of defections from the signed recruits. New OL & LB coaches have recently been hired and a new DC will be hired, all after the Feb FB signings. However, I am not confident that we will see the changes on the field that most of us want. The new DC is likely to be in the same mold as the prior hires - older (new OL Coach Stinespring is 56-57, probable new DC Bob Trott is 66, but Yahner is relatively "young" at 42 but without an overly impressive resume) and with prior connections to Rocco. Plus, as the article on the UD website points out, Rocco lays down the blueprint, especially for the defense. Finally, Rocco's age & at this point shaky tenure at UD (as well as his philosophies), work against Rocco hiring (even if he wanted to which i doubt he does) any new, young, assistant coaches who could bring very different approaches to the game.

Trott was DC for a National Championship in 2016. Have no problems with his hire or age as long as Rocco hands him the keys to the defense and stays out of it.

Rocco needs to the let the coaches coach & have say in the gameplay but not dictate it.

Hopefully the next hire is someone can some fire, enthusiasm & make DE football a contender year after year like it has previously.

Don't wish him any ill will, always sad to see folks let go, but this had to be done. Glad they've done it and hopefully this translates to an entirely different philosophy on that side of the ball this year. Hopefully the days of frequent three man rushes and passive defenses are behind us. Gotta play downhill more often and have to start dictating things to the offense rather than the reactive posture we've had under the Rocco regime.

It would be interesting who they get, especially if he's an up and comer, as someone hired now could in theory be up for the job depending on how things go this year and if Rocco ends up not continuing on at UD.

When does spring practice start/end? I'd think Rocco would be under a real crunch to bring in a replacement sooner rather than later. It's not very often a DC or OC is brought in after the Spring....
