Delaware Athletics COVID-19 Update

Post by jd of de » Wed Mar 11, 2020 4:45 pm

The University of Delaware's Athletic Department has put the following action plan in place for the foreseeable future to mitigate risk associated with COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, staff and the community. Senior leaders throughout the University are continually monitoring the situation in coordination with state and federal public health officials.

All University of Delaware Athletic spring sport home events will be played as scheduled without spectators permitted.
All home practices will take place with only student-athletes and essential personnel present.
All out-of-season (fall and winter) sports will continue to train/practice, however all competitions (home and away) have been cancelled.
All third-party competitions or events to take place at the University of Delaware athletic facilities are being evaluated.
All international travel is prohibited. Essential domestic travel for teams, coaches and staff is permissible, but will be highly monitored by medical personnel.

Our Sports Medicine staff has implemented a mandatory pre-screening protocol for all teams traveling before all departures to do our best due diligence in assuring that we are not sending any sick individuals to other universities. The pre-screening will consist of a temperature check and verbal symptom review by a healthcare provider. If any travel party member has a fever or is exhibiting symptoms of concern, they will not be permitted to travel. We are similarly asking all officials and visiting teams to pre-screen your entire travel party before traveling to our campus.

Fans who purchased tickets for an upcoming men’s or women’s lacrosse game with a credit card will be automatically refunded within 3-5 business days. Anyone who has paid with cash or check will be contacted by the Delaware Ticket Office to make arrangements. Please contact the Delaware Ticket Office at (302) 831-2257 or athletics-tix@udel.edu with any questions in regards to the refund of tickets.

With the situation continuing to develop, we ask that you please visit www.udel.edu/coronavirus for the most current and reliable information from the University. This site is kept up to date with news and FAQs.

We will provide necessary updates as this situation continues to develop and unfold. Please feel free to email any questions you may have to athletics-dir@udel.edu.

Yea the 100 fans sitting outside in the stands 75 feet away from the field are going to infect the team.

I don’t think they’ll even have Spring Practice now.

UD just cancelled classes tomorrow and Friday. Spring break moved to next week and starting 3/23 classes are all online until further notice.

The release didn’t say but if they stay consistent with other schools the dorms and dining halls will all be vacated as well.

Other schools are already doing that - only the Ivies at the D-1 level so far.....but that’s probably the next step.

The fans may infect each other and then may infect others with whom they come in contact.

The Lost Spring. Will we ever see anything like this again? I hope not.
