There is a real need to talk about covid-19 and what it is doing to our world. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO DO IT. The board moderators have given public and private warnings to several of you who continually use this forum to argue back and forth.
The rules of this website are simple and crystal clear. Please read them. Pay particular attention to rule #2 and stay on topic. Is it your intention to drive people away from the GoHens website? You are doing just that! Most of us love this site because it gives us a place to get away from the world's negativity and discuss our Blue Hens with others fans.
Each person on the site has different political views, different social views and different religious views. Please do not turn this site into something it was never intended to be. This website is intended to discuss UD athletics - past, present and future.
For those of you that have a passion for politics and arguing you might try spending your time on this site https://www.usmessageboard.com/ That website also has rules that must be followed, however, it would give you the freedom to enter into discussion about the topics you seem to prefer.

I’ve attempted to steer clear of most/all COVID dialogue because no amount of facts or figures is going to sway someone’s opinion. Either side is so dug in and entrenched in “their view” that having a reasonable conversation is completely out of the question. You could say this is just a microcosm of our differences in this country.
My only point I’ll bring up from someone who has worked in healthcare for 8+ years (I’m younger, sorry) and has a Masters in a healthcare related field is this. Those who are referencing the relatively low death rate are missing the point entirely. While it feels like forever, we have only been dealing with COVID-19 effects for ~7 months. No one knows the long term complications for those who contract COVID-19. We are literally learning about it as we go. We don’t know the impact on the lungs, lung scarring, lung tissue. heart muscles, potential chronic cardiac problems, issues to the central nervous system, etc. No we can’t shut down and bunker for the rest of our lives. That’s not my point. But no one knows the impact of a kid getting COVID then having to live another 80 years. So you can understand the caution surrounding this illness even if it frustrates you to no end.
Now we’ve seen it take away something we all love, Delaware football. I feel for not only those impacted by COVID but these athletes who are missing out on the incredible experience of putting on that blue and gold and representing the First State. I appreciate their willingness to say all the right things even though they are both hurt and saddened by the recent cancellation.

Re: CAA fall football cancelled
Any movement yet on Elon and JMU playing this fall? I see little to no benefit for Elon to play. This is JMUs chance to prove that they can go to the next level. If you look at their message board, many of the dukes faithful feel they are a top P5 school and that the invitations from the SEC / Big10 / ACC will come anyday now. I look forward to them making the jump and becoming another big school powerhouse not unlike UConn, ODU, or Coastal Carolina. With an expected loss of revenue this season, how high do you think their 'athletic fees' can get raised to before the students push back?
Re: CAA fall football cancelled
Not sure what JMU and Elon will do. There are still many D1 schools in their region that haven't cancelled their season so we'll see.
As for JMU and moving up to FBS, it should have already happened. They operate in every way like an FBS team except for the 22 additional scholarships. It also doesn't hurt that they are building a new 8,500 hoops arena.
Not sure what JMU has been waiting for but they have clearly outgrown the CAA and if you have any doubts, go to a game there.

Weber St transfer Qb Jake Constantine, who came to Towson, now announcing he is headed to Washington St. Most likely due to no football in CAA.
Re: CAA fall football cancelled
Email came out from the ticket office this afternoon, options for what to do if you've already paid for season tickets for 2020 were:
Donate: Move the amount paid into a 100% tax-deductible charitable donation to Delaware Athletics.
Transfer: Transfer payments to the 2021 fall season (this will be the default option if you do not make a selection).
Refund: Receive a full refund.
Combination: Choose to split your payment between a charitable donation to Delaware Athletics and a refund.
Regardless of what you pick it won't impact where you get to sit in the fall of 2021.
Also said that if there is spring football in 2021 that tickets would be sold on an individual game basis and that more information would be forthcoming should there be a spring season.

I don't get why there wouldn't be an option to allow 2020 season ticket payment to ride until it is determined if there will be Spring FB season. If there is, apply appropriate amount of 2020 season ticket payment to Spring FB and refund, donate, or apply balnce to 2021 Season Tickets. If no Spring FB, then same options as presented by UD at teh time that no Spring FB decision is made..
Re: CAA fall football cancelled
I’m guessing it would be an accounting nightmare.BlueHenBill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 6:12 pmI don't get why there wouldn't be an option to allow 2020 season ticket payment to ride until it is determined if there will be Spring FB season. Re: CAA fall football cancelled
This is more of a retorical question, but how does the SEC agree to a conference only schedule today in this COVID enviroment while also saying they are doing what is best for the students and athletes? We all know this is purly a money decision and has nothing to do with safety!

Take a look at how well MLB is working out. CAA cancelling was the right move. I can only imagine how much quick testing would cost CAA teams to implement and it would still only reveal what we all know already. Would have been a disaster of a season.

Hengrad07, Ypu amy be correct, but unless the 2021 season has the same # of Home games (6) as were scheduled for the 2020 season and the ticket prices and parking charges remain unchanged, an accounting nightmare could also result from moving the ticket payments for the 2020 season to the 2021 season.Hengrad07 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 7:13 pmI’m guessing it would be an accounting nightmare.BlueHenBill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 6:12 pmI don't get why there wouldn't be an option to allow 2020 season ticket payment to ride until it is determined if there will be Spring FB season. I have no doubt Bill that your concern was considered by the ticket office. However, the method that was chosen is cleaner and more efficient.BlueHenBill wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 7:30 pmHengrad07, Ypu amy be correct, but unless the 2021 season has the same # of Home games (6) as were scheduled for the 2020 season and the ticket prices and parking charges remain unchanged, an accounting nightmare could also result form moving the ticket payments for the 2020 season to the 2021 season.Hengrad07 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 7:13 pmI’m guessing it would be an accounting nightmare.BlueHenBill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 6:12 pmI don't get why there wouldn't be an option to allow 2020 season ticket payment to ride until it is determined if there will be Spring FB season.
