UD Fall Practice and Spring Season 2021

Decided to try and start a new thread due to the following information being reported:

1. It appears an FCS spring Season/Playoff is going to happen

http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.asp?i ... 2162548204

2. The CAA is putting together a proposal to restart

https://www.dnronline.com/sports/colleg ... 0e001.html

3. UD football began practicing again yesterday.

https://twitter.com/DelawareFB/status/1 ... gr%5Etweet

Would like this thread to discuss specifically UD football and the upcoming season only.

1. Information specific only to UD football season starting and continuing.
2. Practice Observations
3. The team, players, coaches RELATED TO UD FOOTBALL ONLY!

Please Avoid and revert to the other general college football returning thread on the following:

1. Talk about other schools or conferences non FCS (unless it directly relates to UD football)
2. Talk about the virus spread and virus related topics/statistics. (unless it is UD specific)
3. Political topics relating to virus.

So to get started it looks like the CAA, FCS, and UD are all coming into alignment currently to have a season in the spring, and things are clearly in motion right now. When are we going to start seeing the specifics of a season coming together? What will it look like? Anyone have any specifics or things we should watch? We are practicing again, what do the practices look like and is this fall practice session similiar to what a "spring practice session would look like"? What is the practice schedule? Is the entire team back on campus? Do we have the ability to get Intel from the practices? Where is the local media on these topics? If we are practicing and there is a season being planned behind the scenes what do we have to look forward too?

100% of the football team reported back to campus campus a month ago, if not a tad longer. They were brought back in phases beginning around the 4th of July.

Early last week all 600+ student-athletes were back on campus. As reported by Tres, 36 have tested positive and all will be tested every 2 weeks.

I look at the new construction pictures every morning and I saw players practicing yesterday. Of course, they were so far away I couldn't see very much. Thank you for starting this thread will all the details about what to post here and what not to post here.

Do we have any idea who from Delaware won't be playing in the spring? I imagine the NFL isn't going to change their draft date so anyone with a legit shot to be drafted likely wouldn't play in the spring.

I don't know how you can decide to sit out and wait for the draft and keep your scholarship. IMO, and it is just my opinion, no UD player will sit out for this reason.

I didn't mean to imply they'd keep their scholarship, I meant to imply that they would graduate early or just leave - similar to how seniors often finish their fall semester and then leave school to get ready for the draft.

Not sure if this link was posted previously, but it includes a video of practice.

https://twitter.com/DelawareFB

At QB, I noticed:
4 - Dean Hall
10 - Anthony Paoletti
12 - Zach Gwynn
14 - Nolan Henderson
18 - Mike Campbell

Didn't see Cade Pribula, although I read somewhere that he had surgery on his non-throwing shoulder (that had been injured in his last HS game). Doesn't mean he isn't there - just that I didn't see him in this video.

Also, our GoHens roster should be updated with the numbers from the Bluehens.com football roster.

Well, I don't know if this is out of place but maybe the NFL is not the only reason for players not to play in the spring. Maybe it is the end of their time in UD classes and some should be looking for jobs and preparing for life after UD football. Maybe some are in that boat.

No, that's certainly a good point and could be a factor for some players. That's one of the uncertainties of what spring football could look like.

Pro Days - assumed early February (before a spring season would start)

NFL Combine - February 23 thru March 1 (covers the assumed 1st weekend of a spring season)

NFL Draft - April 29 thru May 1st (after a spring regular season and during the FCS playoff quarterfinals)

Wondering who you think on the 20-21 FB team is "draft worthy".

Per the Maine AD, the CAA will put out the Spring schedule this week. The Southland and MVFC schedules are already out.

Here we go folks. 8 game season. 6 conference games and 2 non conference games.

"Conference play is anticipated to begin on March 6 and conclude on April 17, with each team receiving a bye week during the seven-week timeframe. Institutions are allowed to schedule "non-conference" games against other conference members, but those games would not count towards the conference standings and the outcome would not be used in the tiebreaking procedures. Based on NCAA guidelines, teams are allowed to begin non-conference competition as early as January 23.

The makeup of the divisions and the final conference schedule will be announced in the next several weeks"

https://bluehens.com/news/2020/9/30/caa ... eason.aspx

We should have the full team in tact. New coaches with extra time to get acclimated. Our stadium and WAC will be 100% finished and polished. Our conference rivals lost many of their best players. Schedule will be easier than we had set for the fall. Hopefully we can be more than "relevant" this year.

Who do you think we schedule for non conference games? Cupcakes or someone respectable? Looks like season will start in Feb with Non Conf games at home. Will there be any fans allowed?

LETS GO!

Although permitted, the extra 2 "non-conference" games will be tough to schedule. Because this is a shortened season, you won't get the benefit of a home and home game and you're likely not paying anything to bring someone here. With everyone bleeding money, getting someone to agree to a road game and all of the travel costs that go with it will be a challenge. Would have to come from someone very close that could take buses the day of the game. Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
