Bluehens 'ALL NASTY' Team (1968 to Present)

Post by HENJOHN » Mon Sep 21, 2020 7:46 am

I think most of us are familiar with the adjective "Nasty' and how it applies to a football player. Its not always the best players or guys that foam at the mouth when they play but guys that played with that certain edge or craze when they went after it. I gave some thought to my top 25 on both sides of the ball since my first season going as a young guy in 1968. Its not necessarily always the Best player we had a position but at times it was. I am sure I missed some guys but here is a quick stab at my "Delaware Football ALL NASTY" team on Offense & Defense:

OFFENSE
Gregg Perry
Sean Blieler
Jeff Fiss
Garry Kuhlman
Chris Coyne
Nick Boyle
Conway Hayman
Bill Armstrong
Bob Norris
Jim Stull
Dan Reeder
Craig Cummings
Nate Beasley
Ray Sweeney
Bill Vergantino
Kyle Yocum
Rich Gannon
Chuck Hall
Daryl Brown
Omar Cuff
Matt Nagy
Eddie Conti
Rich Beverly
Jason Nerys
Gino Gradkowski

DEFENSE
Darrell Booker
Dennis Johnson
Mike Cecere
Ralph D'Angelo
Dennis Hulme
Mike Bandish
Garry Bello
Sam Miller
Kenny Bailey
Troy Reeder
John Favero
Matt Morrill
Joe McGrail
Ed Braceland
Bob Pietuszka
Bobby Slowik
Chris Mooney
Mike Renna
Brian McKenna
Mondoe Davis
Ray Jones
Dale Koscielski
Mike Adams
Dorrell Green
Zach Kerr

(Noah Plack on the current team is working his way on this list!)............Let em rip.

Anthony Bratton definitely deserves to be on that list.

I thought Dan Mulhern fit that mold.

I'd also throw Brian Smith on that list as well - he's often overlooked but he was a tackling machine on some really good defensive teams (that 1997 team was one of those - outside of 2003 they were one of the best defenses I've seen at UD).

Pat Mulhern should definitely be on that list as well as Shannon Trostle. Kenny Bailey was an absolute beast, he was like having a fourth linebacker. I was surprised that he never made it to the NFL.

I don't think the opposing offenses liked Shawn Johnson very much.

Was it Leon Clarke who killed the Southern Illinois QB (I think it was them) in the 2003 playoffs? Absolute nastiest hit I've seen. Also, agree Bratton, Andy Hall, Jeff Modesett(sp?), John Levelis, and Ben Cross.

R Rec, read more carefully. I already had Bello, Bandidh, McKenna and some others on my list and it was hard keeping it to just 25 on each side.
