2018 - 2019 Roster

Postby jd of de on Wed May 16, 2018 3:47 pm

I am on board with MI's plan :D :D This roster will make some noise in the CAA this season, avoid the play-in games in Charleston and set themselves up for a run at a CAA title when Darling and Mutts become eligible.

The starters … Carter (Sr) – Cushing (Jr) – Anderson (So) – Allen (So)

The 5th starter and 6th & 7th men … Bryant (Sr) – Goss (RJr) – Walker (So)

The bench … Horton (Fr) – Novakovich (Fr) – Veretto (Fr)

plus a unknown eligible transfer per MI in a story by Tres

These names are also key to the season ... Allen Iverson had it wrong; practice matters.
Walk-ons … Lochner (Sr) – Rufo (So) – Long (Fr)
Sitting out this season … Darling (Jr) – Mutts (So)

Speaking of potential grad transfers.....the list is shrinking by the week. Below is what I believe to be the available grad transfers not counting D2 guys( we are mentioned with the one D2 kid from midwest). The two names I have heard from others off line are not on this list nor has there been any public mention of them leaving their respective programs so who knows. The fact MI mentioned the grad transfer in the article tells me we are in play for someone.

Tramaine Isabell PG Drexel
Tory Miller C Colorado
Malik Hines C UMass
Dion Wiley SF Maryland
Jayln Patterson PG LSU
Cheddi Mosely SG BU
Troy Holston SG USF
Jadon Cohee SG Southern Utah
Marcel Pettway PF Nevada

2 names I highlighted. Mosely has been mentioned with Delaware along with Rhode Island, Wake and St Bonaventure. Maryland transfer Wiley I have not seen mentioned with any team; however, he is following Anthony Mosely and Corey McCrae on Twitter. He is from Maryland...came in as a 4 star but never went beyond a role player avg 5-6/game. Both players have had their share of injuries.
The 3rd guy is Bryant transfer Pettway...intially he was headed to nevada as a walk on but now is back on the market. Guy is a beast..undersized at 6'5 but 250. I think he probably goes higher but outside of Carter, we dont have any experience returning and he would be an instant starter and make us a contender.

Edit: The above list are grad transfers...apparently there are a number of transfers eligible to play right away that are not grad transfers but received immediate eligibility for other reasons.

darthdave, Thanks for the info. Who do you believe is most talented on that list? What position do you see as the greatest need for 2018-2019? If UD had a choice, would you go for the most talented or the greatest need? Do incoming transfers sign anything binding them in any way similar to a national LOI?

The most talented or greatest need matter less than the best fit ... see a great need and talented Derrick Woods as exhibit one.

And I quote, one Herb Brooks:

"I'm not looking for the best players, Craig. I'm looking for the right ones."
2018.....I already know I should have been named Richard

Kenner league rosters. With Darling, Goss, Bryant, Walker and Allen all having played hs ball in DC area, I thought we might some of them on a team but nothing. Assuming they are all in Newark working together.

I believe most if not all of the squad are in Newark.

MI encourages them to take Summer #1 off, but some do not. The whole team is enrolled in summer #2, which is currently underway

now that everybody is getting heated up for the football season, maybe we'll hear some news about our ballers soon? Any news on how Goss looks?

I wonder if any of our freshmen, esp. up front, will get a shot for some pt. Loads of time for MI to evaluate all the pieces of the pie. Way too early to speculate, but MI will be intensely seeking to put together a much deeper bench so our players won't burn our from too much pt.

Goss looks good ... probably a 16-18 minute guy.

Anderson looks 100%

Horton may be in CAA ROY conversation

I don’t have a solid read on Fr bigs yet

Darling can light it up from anywhere, but that’s for ‘19-‘20

JD - thanks for the input. I refrained from mentioning Horton, but expect he'll be in the mix.
great to hear Goss may give us some decent minutes off the bench as size can matter depending on
the matchups and foul issues during the games.
