Jealous of the program JMU has built over the past decade or so.

It is what it is. This one was for the coffers. The next nine are for real.

I was not surprised by the outcome. Disappointed, but not surprised when playing the #7 ranked team in the country.
More importantly, what’s the injury situation? From the beginning, my biggest desire was to emerge without any major injuries.

Re: Game Thread: Penn State
So after watching this game not only were we overmatched but we were completely shell shocked and not playing our best. (not that it would have mattered in the end result but it would have shown something). A example of Marker on TV was so nervous he couldn't even put his mouth piece in without multiple tries.
Both QBs missed open receivers. We had blown coverages. Missed FG.
One note: I don’t think OL was really that bad? The blocking on the Yarns TD was great, two sacks? Not that we ran very many plays lol.
This game was very similar to our games against NDSU and SDSU. Against good teams at FCS or FBS level we are soft n the trenches. This 3–3 whatever defense cannot stop good running teams at either level. It should have been gone with Rocco. Football is won physically and in the trenches most of the time. Yea you need speed and finesse at skill positions but for those players to shine you need blocks. After this season the 3 man front defense needs to go away and something needs to be done to bolster both lines. The “we only need to be average in the trenches and let our skill position players win us games” approach is not going to get us beyond the mediocre CAA and lower tiered conference playoff opponents.
Our good teams of the past had great DL and OLs, there were no exceptions. Sadly we may never see a defensive front as good as 03 ever again. They could have put up a fight against anyone in college football.
We can start now by at least lining up 4 in the dirt against good running teams. They have to change something. New Hampshire is going to be the real wake up call.

Re: Game Thread: Penn State
I agree with most of the posters on here saying how does scheduling a game like this help us in any way ?? Recruiting…. No. Does this kind of humiliation make us more attractive to an FBS conference like the MAC or the SunBelt to say wow we better get an invite to these guys before someone else beats us to it…. No! Athletics being the front porch of your university to help enrollment??… No. I really hope the $400K payment is understated because a payment for showing up… that’s the only benefit of this debacle.
Re: Game Thread: Penn State
I'm more envious of UConn. In the mid 70s they were just like us - mid major in football and basketball. Then they get lucky to be in on the formation of the Big East. I wouldn't expect to win national championships in basketball but ight now it would be great to be like them: an FBS independent in football and in the Big East for the Olympic sports.Firstand10BlueHens wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 4:49 pm Jealous of the program JMU has built over the past decade or so.

Right you are. And all for 400K. Nothing positive about this.
