Where would you like to see UD go?

Prefer to stay FCS. No interest in FBS, I love the playoff system and would rather dominate here.

Give me FBS, don’t care how. I’d be completely fine with going independent.

Want to go FBS but we need a plan, whether that’s the MAC, Conf USA, etc.

Camellia (Montgomery, AL)
Quick Lane (Ford Field, Detroit)
Arizona (Tucson)

The two bowls below are where the MAC competes with other G5 conferences for a spot:

Myrtle Beach
Boca Raton
Not a bad list, mp. Thanks!

Boise...only 2 hours from Evel Knievel's jump! Actually, taking a week to see a game and doing some skiing in that area would be awesome.

Tuscon...I enjoyed visiting AZ a couple times...just haven't been that far south. Mt. Lemmon skiing...I'd check that out.

Mobile...anywhere near water is good for me.

Bahamas, Myrtle Beach, Boca...IN!

Detroit...have family outside of Detroit...but not a winter visit. Hard pass.

Montgomery...have to look into that a bit more. Maybe go for the food?

So, for the most part...a good lineup.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Delaware's endless dallying is going to cost them, in a literal way this time. Toss in another check for $1M to exit the Coastal. That said, shouldn't be a problem for a school whose athletic expenses exceed $40M-$45M annually to cut checks when the time comes.

Boise is an awesome visit. You can ski locally in Bogus Basin or drive just a couple of hours to Sun Valley. Very picturesque.

See that? We have some cultured folks here on GoHens. 😀👍

Water..frozen or liquid…is always a good pathway to fun.

Speaking of which…slight chance of a t-storm Saturday. Hope the game doesn’t have any delays.

I voted ‘other’…Show me.

This school can’t succeed building/supporting a winning program at their current ‘competitive’ level. The stadium is still a festering sore. Community support, much less capital improvements, is pretty weak tea. They’re just another program with past success that’s become mediocre.

They could commit to an FBS conference at any time. Until there’s a seismic shift in the community and university’s sentiments, priorities, and investment, it’ll be a fiasco.

So how many more fans go to UMass games, now that they're FBS. ?

I was curious, so I looked them up, along with 4 other recent FCS-to-FBS transitions schools.
UMass had a bump in attendance for couple seasons after moving to FBS, only to slip right back to their former FCS-level figures. They are averaging 9000/game so far in 2023.

The other schools I looked at were: JMU, App State, Ga. Southern, and Coastal Carolina. All of which UD would consistently outdraw 20 years ago.
GSU was a similar story as UMass - higher numbers, but back to FCS figures. This year they are drawing well.

Coastal has slowly climbed in attendance, but they were just starting their program up in FCS from nothing, So it's a unique situation.

App State has made some major renovations to Kidd Brewer Stadium, most recently in 2021. They are now averaging over 30K per game. Of course, they had a lot of success on the field which helped!

JMU is just starting their FBS journey, so may be too early to tell. I will say their best average attendance was in 2011 where they just topped 25K. They have not done better than that yet as FBS, although this year so far they are very close.
