It's never too early to start paying attention to what's going on with the schools in the AAC and Sun Belt. Particularly the eastern ones.

Exactly. The phony hand wringing and pearl clutching would be comical if it weren't so pathetic.

They currently have a 13 game series going on, with 6 scheduled at ODU. Though there’s been rumors that VA Tech may buy out the ODU home games from what I’ve seen due to the ACC not wanting any of their teams to play G5 road games.
This is also another potential twist, and why we could not get certain schools to come here even on two for one because their conference won’t even allow it.
Why does it feel like G5 (whatever that is) is being treated like the old 1-AA ?

Just look at your new back to the Future Conference … that’s probably a big part of it

Louisiana Tech
Jacksonville St
Sam Houston St
Liberty
Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee State
Florida International

FCS/1AA super conference

Hopefully we get rescued from the lifeboat quickly and get into something else like east coast conference many on here have alluded to……. And dominate it
Nothing wrong with looking for better opportunities--But--First--I suggest maybe trying to win CUSA once.

Noticed you left out UTEP and NMSU--who have Always been FBS.

FIU was only fcs it's first three years of existence.

So....here's a question--How Long do you have to be FBS before a schools fcs history keeps being brought up as a "putdown"?

Will schools playing UD in 2054 still bring up fcs in conversation?

And how many top 25 (FBS) appearances do you need and wins over P5 teams do you need to be "accepted"?

Several schools in CUSA have been ranked in the FBS Top 25 in the last few years.

TONS of wins by CUSA schools over every P5 conference--and yes the "names" too (Alabama, Miami, Florida St.,etc.).

A list of NAME NFL players Way too numerous to mention.

FBS years:

La Tech>>35 years

MT>>>>>>24 years

FIU>>>>> 20 years

WKU>>>> 17 years

Liberty>>> only 7--But a Top 25 FBS finish and a NY 6 Bowl

UTEP, NMSU--were never fcs

Once again this year--even after adding two fcs newbies--CUSA STILL finished ahead of the MAC (as per usual) and defeated Two Sun Belt teams in Bowl games.

"The Athletic" final 2023 season poll-- Liberty#22, NMSU #35, JAX St.#63, WKU#75 [133 teams]

Be happy you even got a "lifeboat" or you'd still be playing in Buies Creek against the Camels on flo sports.

By the way-- "most" CUSA fans (including myself) are Glad to have UD join the conference.

edit--and hey, I'm just getting started--have a lot more facts for any "haughty" Hens.

Nice job top. Most of us are thrilled with the move to CUSA/FBS. But it will never be unanimous. Not much in life is.

The step up to CUSA/FBS is pretty big no matter what a few think especially the ones that don’t follow FBS much.

1-0 versus La Tech, baby!

Bumped them off in Ruston, La. 17-0 in the semifinals in 1982.

Bring it!
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

And "most" Hen fans (including myself) are glad that CUSA and it's member schools extended an invitation to UD to join them.

Keep posting, Topstraight.

I could not be more pleased for the opportunity that has opened for us. Looking forward to the new competition and the new destinations. (BTW, Buies Creek was NEVER going to happen for this fan)

As an aside, Huntsville, AL for the basketball tournament looks like a fun place. The CAA tournament is in a "not fun" location.

We may have to resurrect our MBB tournament weekend. Baltimore and Charleston were great times.

Good memories Cluck

Played in a monsoon on natural grass that created a mud fest game on national TV … fun game to watch and remember Dan Reeder having a big game

1978
November Playoff win over Jacksonville St 42-27
Beat ‘em again in 2021 playoffs

Also a 53-3 win over Middle Tennessee St that same year

Western Kentucky? I think we split vs them

Hey Topp Straight, not sure why you would be ashamed of your FCS history, it’s something to be proud of and I would bet I’m not the only one that has beaming pride for the glory days of Delaware football

NOT ashamed of our fcs history at all.

Just seen too many fans use an "FCS past" as a "slight" or "put-down".

This change will be a fresh start for UD. Enjoy it! Embrace it!

Talking about leaving CUSA--way too premature IMO.

Anyone that thinks we should not be grateful for the CUSA invitation should contemplate the 2024 schedule as the norm going forward. Eeeewww.

This site doesn’t seem to have a “puke” emoji.

Happy to join the big boys…and I don’t care if it is “second tier.” NDSU, as FCS, can beat some P5 teams…why can’t the Hens in their new FBS environment? And a possible bowl game…in several nice locations? Bonus!!!

By the way, we serve beer in our stadium…to the peasants (not just the club members…and at reasonable prices - for now). Gosh, seems as though we are at the adult table.

Happy to be in a conference with some of the better I-AA/FCS teams that moved up. Plenty of teams making their mark in FBS, and everyone in the G5 has an opportunity to be in the CFP. Just win, baby!!!

Can’t wait to start playing a better schedule and actually having the students know who we are playing. Looking forward to the creative signs on the ESPN broadcasts. :D

Rumors flying that W Kentucky is headed to the MAC as the 14th team

We were on national TV last night , had a giveaway, played a local known team in Drexel and eventhough the pep band takes up half the student section now the rest of it still was not full. We will see how much CUSA moves the needle in the student world. Yet to be determined.
