HG it's one of the reasons why I'm very surprised we didn't lose one or two to the Transfer Portal.

RBs in Carty's O have to be able to catch the ball...and add yards after catch because our QB needs to find the RBs in the mismatches against the LBs.

Keep the legs fresh...speed and quick cuts make a difference as the game goes on.

Should be a fun group to watch. :D

Speaking of which, UD finally got its first player listed on the FCS Top Jersey Countdown:

"21: Delaware RB Marcus Yarns
Yarns is starting to get some NFL Draft buzz after a dynamite 2023 season.

The 5-foot-11 and 183-pounder rushed 136 times for 939 yards and 15 touchdowns last fall. The 15 scores on the ground ranked No. 5 in the FCS. Yarns added 24 catches for 311 yards and three TDs. He earned All-CAA Second Team accolades while being named on the FCS Football Central All-American Third Team."

Glad we were able to keep who we have and there’s some great special teams play that comes from the RBs.

Thanks John but we know CH has great sources :D

I remember five years ago you came back from an August, scrimmage and said Will Knight was the most athletic player on the field… Rocco didn’t get your early memo

One of the things I like about Carty is if you’re good, he will create a way to get you on the field. Spiller as a true Frosh will have to be pretty good to find some playing time, but it will be interesting how Carty utilizes his roster as the season progresses.
recruiting recruiting recruiting...It ain't rocket science....We need better more athletic players...That simple....

On the CAA. Media Day conference call, I asked Marcus and Ty Herring why, given that UD would not be able to compete for a CAA Championship, or in the playoff’s, they would want to stay here and not enter the portal. What is it about UD, and, in particular, UD Football, that would make them want to stay? You can hear that question and answer at about the 10:34 mark. Of course, there is some other good stuff in there as well. You may have read their responses to my question in other media outlets.

If my memory serves me right, Carty overused Yarns in the early to mid-season 2023 with the result that Yarns was somewhat banged-up and less effective in the later season. There should be enough quality RBs on the team (as there were in 2023) to use load management to give Yarns the best opportunity to be fresh and healthy all the way through the late season when the schedule is more difficult.

Your memory seems to be off lately, Bill.

Stony Brook- 11 Carries
Penn State- 6 Carries
St Francis- 12 carries
UNH- 16 carries
Duquesne- 11 carries
NC A&T- 15 carries

If you think that’s overusing an All American RB, yikes. Injuries happen.

Not sure how anyone could watch our games and think Yarns was even close to being overworked.

Well, Yarns’ legs were moving pretty darned fast, so maybe the blurring effect made it seems as though he was working too hard.

For one example, look at the 2023 Towson game which was the 8th game. Yeah, Yarns only had 13 carries. However, with the score UD 38-0 over Towson at halftime, Yarns had all 4 UD rushing attempts in the 3rd quarter and did not play in the 4th quarter. Why play Yarns in the second half of a game that was already pretty much in the bag when you have a stable of competent RBs? Yarns shouldn't have played in the second half. I talked to Yarn's Dad at halftime and he thought that his son should not play in the second half. If my memory is correct, I believe that Yarns got banged-up on a blocked punt in the NC A&T Game (Yarns had 15 carries) just 2 weeks earlier and may have also been banged-up again in the Elon game (Yarns had 10 carries) one week after the Towson game. My initial post on this subject post was responding to and agreeing with Cluck U's prior post of "Keep the legs fresh".

So Glad I posted the RB review.....let's hope Yarns gets 1000+ yards and is supported by a talented group behind him.
