And this is why it makes sense to make a change now. You are going to lose top players to bigger nil $$$ in this environment. If the scheme is not attractive enough to backfill with good players, the D will regress further (😳). Maintaining continuity may have worked at the IAA level but this is now big boy football in the nil environment. We need to be aggressive or risk falling way behind.

The following "method" happens in ALL league games:

--JAX St. coaches (and staff--of whom there are Many--for example--three full time offensive analysts) They "breakdown" Exactly how WKU won UD's last game and build on those strategies to beat UD.

--MTSU builds on that game film in DETAIL--and almost wins.

--Liberty--had a few extra days to build on these previous games--while also working on their own weaknesses and re-tooling their team.

****************************************************************************************************

Everybody does this--they even do some work scouting and planning during the Summer.

It comes down to:

1.)the quality of your assistants (every one) and staff.

2.) Being able to adapt, "re-invent", self-scout, and quickly adjust to the opposition.

3.) Lastly--being proficient in teaching your players to execute your plan; including in-game adjustments

**********************************************************************************************************

If coaches (and by extension-players) don't fine-tune and adapt--then it becomes a cascade effect where everybody has the "Book" on Delaware--or whoever. It can get to the point where they know your schemes or plays as well as You do.

Of course players still have to execute and make plays. Momentum, a bad call, or just things that "happen" during the course of a game can control the outcome.

Exception--obviously if a team has a Tremendous advantage/disadvantage in talent, size, speed--then the above points don't matter much. Example--playing Ohio State or Hampton University.

Agreed on both counts.

Touchdown called back for Illegal Man downfield. QB handing off with his knee on the ground. Razzle-Dazzle plays that take an eternity to develop and fool absolutely no one. Do we even practice these plays???? It didn't look like it.
Announcers were really getting on Carty and rightly so. They were pointing out the things that EVERYONE of us sees as plain as day, but for some reason our coaching staff can't see. We throw the ball all over creation at the beginning of the game, then when we've dug a huge hole for ourselves down 2-3 TD's we start trying to develop the running game??? But - yeah - Carty is the smartest guy in the stadium.
Be careful of the words you say,
keep them soft and sweet.

which ones you'll have to eat!

Carty left almost all fans shaking their head at the end of the Western Kentucky game when he didn’t take a shot at the end zone.

0-6 against Villanova, Richmond and William & Mary

It was a big hint for what was coming
recruiting recruiting recruiting...It ain't rocket science....We need better more athletic players...That simple....

This! Why did anyone think he could coach at a higher level?

Just really glad I decided to check the score in the morning rather than watch the ‘game’….

Great post Topstraight. After leaving the game last night I used to analogy of a pitcher going to the majors. Typically, the pitcher does well their first few outings in the bigs. However, teams begin to figure out the tendencies of the pitcher and the hits and runs follow. I believe other teams have begun to figure out our tendencies and are exposing our weaknesses.

Still hoping for 6 wins. But it will not be easy.

Analysis from someone on the Board that is most qualified to offer it. Hard to argue any of it. Lets see if we respond for Homecoming.

This point is almost beyond debate. Responding at homecoming is critical. If not, and the Hens get rolled again and look terrible in the process, this season could spiral into a very unsatisfying finish.

This defensive scheme is bad, no doubt. But a portion of the blame can also be attributed to the lack of skills and the ability to control the game at the qb position. Can’t keep running your D out there after a horrendous offensive showing. They go hand in hand. Geeze this guy is bad.

I'm afraid LaTech is going to do the same thing to us. Hopefully they get their act together, I just don't see it happening.

As for Carty, he's not going anywhere. No way UD eats his contract. What he needs to do is hire an OC and get a new DC. I'm not a big fan of calling for someone's job, but this defensive scheme isn't working.
