Had to relive a bad soccer game in almost the same way. Sometimes you just have to laugh at what life throws at you.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

I
Cluck, I was eventually able to laugh about that game with him. He ended up coming to some UD games with us but he loved to relive the play by play of '88. It was certainly understandable.

Those were the Niemela and Hess teams, no? For that stretch in the 1980's, West Chester had a better overall roster than Delaware. If not for Gannon, there would've been a few more losses to West Chester in that decade.

When was the WCU game where we lost Conti and Dale K for the year. It might have been a win but it was an overall loss. It led to a chorus of why are we playing WCU? A win doesn’t even count for the playoffs.

Correct GF. Both Niemela and Hess got time in NFL camps over multiple years and WCU could have went 3-1 vs. UD those years were it not for Gannon. Niemela had a chance to stick with the Eagles as the #3 QB if Don Mcpherson could have beaten Matt Cavanaugh out for the back-up spot behind Randall. Cavanaugh was an expensive backup that they could've moved on from if they felt more comfortable with McPherson.

Hasn’t that rule about wins versus D2 teams not counting changed? The committee should see a difference between a low level 2-win D2 and an undefeated, nationally ranked D2.

Yes, there is no penalty any longer for playing a D2 team rather than an FCS team. The committee has certainly recognized that playing a great D2 team is very often better than playing a bottom rung FCS team. We play DSU because of the pressure to play an in-state institution, and with DSU being an HBCU that just adds to the pressure to play them. We don't play them because of the quality of the opponent - we made our schedule easier by playing them so much and dropping other teams.

I think we lost Josh Baker as well [no idea why he was playing special teams]?

As I remember the 1997 season was very successful at 12-2 and a great Playoff home win vs Ga Southern. A last second McNeese FG kept us from the Championship game

@ Towson W

Villanova L (until we can beat them I’ll always have this as a loss)

I think we drop one of UNH or Elon and go 8-3.

Schedule is favorable avoiding Richmond, W&M and shockingly URI, but anyone thinking we will just walk through this schedule after we lost an entire defense and have a new QB is just setting the staff up for failure.

8-3, playoff win, hopefully two, another step in the right direction before the program hopefully really takes off.
Gotta toot my own horn here, though wish I had been wrong yesterday. Nailed every game. Hope the rest is right too, that we get a playoff win or two and that the program really starts to take off next year.

Always fun looking back on this at the end of the year.

Haha wouldn’t go that far. I’ll make sure to tell my wife what you said though. She’ll get a good laugh.
