WR position best ever at Delaware?

Post by Caribbean Hen »

On paper I think you can make a strong case for this being the best overall group of WR talent ever assembled in Newark. Have to go back at least 13 years to even compare

Tomorrow night it gets real and I can’t wait to see this group in action and see if they can play up to the hype.

The group is led by 5th year senior #17 Jourdan Townsend. A player who in my view, underperformed his talent level until last year and boom suddenly flourished in the Carty offense. Talent breeds talent and when the wide receiver position was upgraded last year, it just gives a player like Townsend a little bit more space to operate in and he performed surgery… also a multi dimensional player. Great to have him for one more year

#8 Chandler Harvin - this is a Carly type wide receiver …a big playmaker. All you have to do is look at the Navy game when on a broken play, 2 athletes improvising connect on a game-winning touchdown pass that put Delaware in the playoffs. Harvin is worth every penny. Good coaches realize Playmakers are often more important than calling plays. We are very fortunate to have Harvin back on the team for one more year.

#12 Kim Wimberly graduate student transfer from Harvard hometown, Slidell, Louisiana

Ill just shut up for a minute and say if Kym is healthy, you guys are gonna be very happy 😃

Check him out

#19 Jalyn Witcher
Yes, I hyped him up big time last year and I admit I was surprised they redshirted him. Let’s not forget that at Presbyterian in 2021, he was FCS freshman all American. Granted a huge chunk of his stats game against some horrible teams so what we’re going to get from Witcher at this point is just a guess for me. I don’t know. Hopefully he will contribute. I still think he has the talent to contribute in a big way.

Several more players to cover coming up in part II and who knows, maybe I save the best one for last.
recruiting recruiting recruiting...It ain't rocket science....We need better more athletic players...That simple....

Best WR class ever. Big unproven question. Do we have QB’s that can get the ball to them?

Coach was asked how all in this stable and the RB stable can get enough touches. He said score TDs and they will get more time. It’s a real competition for the ball and playing time. Townsend can do great stuff, he just needs to focus a little more, stay within himself and avoid some of the mistakes he had last year (my comment).

Largest group of wide receivers ever is the only sure thing going into tomorrow's game. If our OL & RB's don't block and we don't have a running game it won't matter if Jerry Rice is jumping up and down in the end zone. Save that stupid question for November.

I agree the question was childish, stupid and provocative.

If it had been asked yesterday at the luncheon he would have been laughed out of the room.

Joshua Youngblood
Chandler Harvin
Kym Wimberly
JoJo Bermudez
Jourdan Townsend
Phil Lutz
Jalyn Witcher
Ja’Carree Kelly
James Collins
Isaiah Cherry

On paper, we appear loaded at WR with both proven talent and experience.

This may also be one of the deepest running back groups we’ve ever had with a combination of youth and experience.

Cumby
Yarns
Watson
Silver
St. Fleur

If our OL plays better and our QBs play with poise and minimize turnovers, I’m really excited about this offense’s potential.

We have had a lot of WR's that had great hands but were not so good at getting quick seperation. I think this group will not have that problem. Looks like we are loaded with speedy proven athletes that will generate a lot of yards after catch.

The question about getting touches with the ball was asked yesterday and no one was laughed out of the room. Not the coach and not the person asking the question. You were there, right?

We may indeed have some outstanding talent at WR but somebody add up the amount of catches they have wearing a Delaware jersey and then rethink the best ever suggestion BEFORE they play their 1st game in 2023. It's just silly. I hope that dream comes true but I'd settle for just Conti & Elliott at WR . (1998)

Well, children get provoked easily and often burst out laughing when they don’t know how to engage in conversation.

I remember a new coach…er, program builder, who said, to a room of Hens fans, that he thought they couldn’t name 10 past Hens transfers. What an arrogant, uninformed comment made by a man that would lead our Hens into our Lost Decade. In hindsight, a better question would be if any Hen fan could name 10 successful ways that Brock made our Hens successful.

This, collectively, may very well be our best group of receivers. We’ll see. They are certainly a talented group, and definitely deeper than anything we had during our Lost Decade. Carty knows good receivers…he was flooded with them down at Sam Houston. Hopefully, our guys will help us be as productive as his previous offenses.

In any case, they certainly will be a fun group to watch.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Smart observation. Speed, speed, speed. YAC = 1) hitting our receivers on the run and 2) make the first defender miss.

As Carty said, our WRs have to be smart and make quick decisions…that means the OL doesn’t have to block for very long.

Carty-ball in year 2.0 is going to be fun to watch.

True, but it’s nice to have quality depth in case of an unfortunate injury in the WR or RB group.
