The weakest FBS Conference accounted for 50% of the FCS wins vs FBS

The not so mighty Tuesday night barren stadium rust belt MAC … but ok, the slop will be on ESPN so it must be better

Duquesne was no good, but managed a win in 2021 out in Ohio…

Get back in the conference with JMU !!

The MAC has ups and downs. 20 years ago: ESPN's College Game Day! #15 Miami vs #23 Bowling Green. The MAC Championship with Ben Roethlisberger threw for 440 yards and we won 49-27. You might remember Julian Edelman, who played for The Patriots and in the MAC, Kent State. To say the MAC is slop is not looking at the overall body of work. Basketball Kent State Elite 8, 2002 and Ohio sweet sixteen, 2012. The MAC has national championships in a few sports and remember Akron winning the soccer Naty around 2012.

Mr. Van Winkle…the current year is 2023.

Perhaps the MAC theme song should be Springsteen’s Glory Days?
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

The MAC sure as heck is better than the crap the CAA and FCS has become. To suggest it is “slop” and by making these silly counter posts … I am not really sure what the point is other than attention seeking?

The MAC would certainly do, at least for now.

We need a seat at the table, and waiting for the perfect table is going leave us at an ever smaller kiddie table.

Somebody with better knowledge can correct if I am wrong here:

Years ago, before there were the divisions that we have now, we were considered "Small College", and the MAC teams were in the same group. We have played a number of those teams over the years: Ohio, Kent, Bowling Green, Akron, Buffalo, Central Mich (bad memory there) .

When the divisions came about, the MAC chose to be Division I. We chose D2.

If, after all these years the opportunity to be FBS and join the MAC were to arise, who are we to turn up our nose at that? Get real!

Who suggested the MAC is slop?

The CAA is slop…and we should get out or we will sink with the ship (although a “t” would be a better ending to that word).

The point (as if I need one after some of your attention thirsty posts) of my post is that Steve is selling the past…the Way Back Machine past…of the MAC. That is not necessary. No one gives a crap about what the MAC did 20 years ago…just as no one gives a crap about Eastern Kentucky’s long forgotten success in FCS.

Don’t sell a vision from decades ago (which has been what Steve has brought up in several posts). Far better to focus on what the MAC would bring to the table today and in the future. <—— That is what would drive interest.

I’d rather be in the MAC than the CAA, because the present and future CAA is looking like garbage.

Exactly. Move up…regardless of conference.

Can’t believe people want to stay in the CAA. Cripes, the MEAC is eating the CAA for lunch, yet people are griping about the MAC.

Sir, you are not wrong at all.

Staying put means continuing to have to play body bag games with 22 less scholarships. Staying put likely means not securing the funding needed for the $100M end zone project. Staying put means more home schedules that resemble 2022 and 2023. Staying put means little chance of growing the fanbase in any meaningful way. Staying put means watching our best players enter the portal for FBS opportunities and losing potential recruits to regional FBS schools.

As the past 20 years have clearly demonstrated, the perfect FBS conference opportunity is not ever going to fall into Delaware's lap as long as they remain members of the CAA. The school can't let the perfect be the enemy of what's good. The football program needs to get to the next level in order to build its football resume and best position itself for other opportunities down the line. There's no reason why the Blue Hens shouldn't compete for MAC championships within 3-5 years, if not sooner.

It's as close to a no-brainer as it gets and long overdue.

Yes, you are correct as the last major bowl was the Orange Bowl in 2013.
Neither the less, the MAC Wins 2022-23 Progressive Bowl Challenge Cup.

Who suggested the MAC is slop?
I did Cluck

If the CAA is slop, The MAC East is slop

In reality though, it’s the better FCS / CAA teams that are just as good if not better than the worst MAC teams.

Hopefully once this all shakes out we will learn that going MAC was plan of last resort and something better is in the cards for Delaware

Info, I didn’t see anyone on here saying turn down an offer to the MAC. Hopefully the people that really matter have something better in mind is all. Maybe it’s to late, who knows

C’mon guys, some of you are acting like mother smother here as if The U of Delaware is your 39 year old single daughter that finally gets a gentleman caller and you push her out the door with the bum without looking at his record

The Sunbelt would get me fired up and certainly a better football place to be

I don't think many FANS would argue that point; however, you're overlooking a couple of enormous non-starters (if media reports are accurate):

1) The Hullihens don't believe the Sun Belt fits the UD's institutional profile. (Ditto CUSA and the current CAA/CSS FB.)
2) The Sun Belt has not expressed a desire to expand anytime soon.

The SBC is not a possibility without mutual interest.

Bluewyn Gold,
You obviously have a tremendous amount of knowledge on this whole subject, way more than I will ever have. Something keeps telling me that once this finally shakes out were all gonna be very surprised and in a good way. Is it just hopes and dreams to think they might be working on things behind the scenes that we just don’t know about?
