A quick ook at th Dukes from a preseason article:

"Duquesne will start the season with Preseason All-NEC 3rd Team member Darius Perrantes under center. Perrantes, a junior, took a backseat for the most part last year behind Joe Mischler. When he did get the chance to make some noise, he did. He threw for 539 yards and six touchdowns, on 37-71 passing.

Schmitt values the speed and mobility of his quarterback this year, and thinks it will work in his team’s favor, without forcing him to make big changes to the playbook.

“I don’t know if we need to have any [new] designs,” Schmitt said. “Because he likes to get out of the pocket anyway. We’re definitely going to take advantage of his mobility.”

Another big name on offense is Joey Isabella, who was named to the Preseason All-NEC 2nd team. He finished with 12 receptions for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns last year, despite missing four games due to injury. Both of those statistics are tops on the team for returning players.

On the defensive side of the ball, Duquesne will see four members of the preseason All-NEC 2nd team return to the field for the 2023 season. Kevin Kurzinger recorded a career-best 20 tackles and 3 sacks last year. Shane Stump also stood out with 54 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2022. Graduate student Tim Lowery had 22 tackles last year, 18 of which were solo. Ayden Garnes had 33 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions returned for 18 yards in total, 4 pass deflections and one fumble forced and recovered. He was also named 3rd team all conference as a kick returner."

That link is to the Dukes' student newspaper...and you can get game summaries of their previous 4 games from them. Funny, their student writer wasn't afraid to write that they got, "blown out" at Coastal.

Of note...this is the Dukes' 4th straight road game. They also have a mobile QB.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

What I want to see Saturday is a 60 minute complete game. Don't come into our house and expect anything less than a physical smash mouth game. The players, coaches and the fans need this to happen. It's time to start a big run of impressive games. I could care less about the polls.

Agree. Enough with the slow starts. Come out and impose our will against these guys. Want the OL to make holes for the run game and open up passing lanes so that our QBs (plural) can easily see downfield. Statement day.

Get a big lead, then get the back ups some playing time so that they can be rewarded for their hard work.

Heavy, heavy traffic trying to get into lots behind West Grandstands. Horns blaring, nerves frayed.

Product of mobile-only parking passes rather than physical?

Bad week for intel. Spent most of the week on other pressing matters. Pipeline will be shutting down soon…winter (ooops)…isolation is coming.

One thing though…intel says when Carty feels comfortable with his QB situation, we should finally see more QBs running (by design and at the QB’s option). Perhaps we see that start to show up, or will Carty keep that in his pocket for another day?

Did get to speak with a couple lacrosse players. They were joking around about who will start (fun, competitive conversation among them). We had a good conversation about Delaware players in the PLL/World lacrosse games. They were pleasantly surprised a Hens fan was paying attention. Going to be a younger team, but they didn’t lack confidence: predicted another CAA title. Can’t wait for the Spring! 👍

It is now 2 of 3 with the weather Gods against us. Crappy game and crappy weather. Steady rain now. Lousy tailgating which was going to be the highlight of the day.

Lots more folks in lot today than UNH. Lot more rain too (pregame at least). Supposed to clear up by kickoff last I saw.

Hang in there. Rain will pass before the game starts.

Breezy, though. Sun will break through around 4pm.
