Air Force @ Delaware

Post by UDHoops »

Of course it's really early for metrics, but KenPom has us at 176 and Air Force at 172. Its Fan Match prediction is guessing 68-65 Delaware. Air Force lost its best player via transfer portal to Clemson after struggling in the Mountain West last season. After a battle last season in Colorado where they won over us, I am excited to see our new roster tested at home Sunday. Sites currently have us as 4.5/5 point favorites

Game notes out.

Starters were off before but the absence of Davis is not a good sign

Small starting lineup. No Houser or Davis. Is Houser injured as well?

Houser has been coming in off the bench, so I’m assuming that’s the same today. He didn’t start against Goldey either with Davis being out, so staying hopeful that he’s okay.

Hens playing excellent defense forcing AF to use up the entire shot clock almost every possession. Those service academies sure do burn clock. Cold shooting towards the end of the half hopefully it heats back up

29-19 at the half. Hens playing great defense but struggling offensively. Hit some shots in the second half and keep playing defense and Hens will be fine.

29-19 at the half. The under is definitely hitting. Solid defense and late shot clock possessions. Huge shot by Reilly to end the half. Davis, Houser also impressed

First time for me seeing the Hens in person after catching the first 2 games on TV. A couple of initial reactions:

The Good…

Up 29 to 19 at the half.

This teams is much longer and quicker than any UD team I can remember. Very active hands which has been giving Air Force problems.

Davis can do just about anything he wants with the ball in his hands.

Houser has a very nice soft shooting touch.

We are noticeably bigger, stronger and faster than AF. Only way they stay in the game is if they continue to hit 3’s.

The Bad…

Shooting hasn’t been great with some rushed shots thrown in there for good measure.

We’ve missed a number of gummies under the basket. Need to hit those.

There is zero energy in the building. If there are more than 1,500 in the building I’d be surprised.

Overall, feeling encouraged. If this team picks up the shooting percentage in the 2nd half we should pull away. If not, it could go down to the wire. Hoping for the former.

Air Force’s offense outdoing ours to start the second. Already scored more in 7 and a half minutes than they did the whole first half. Tie ball game
