The Test -Villanova

Post by udsb97 »

Despite the suggestions earlier in the season Saturday is the first real test for Ryan Carty and the renewed success of UD football. Ryan didn't make the schedule and nobody expected a real game at State College but the hiccup against Elon was a concern. . For those who think we have returned from the ridiculously overly mentioned "lost decade" keep your helmet buckled until Saturday afternoon when RC plays his most important game ever as a head coach. Throw out the crazy dazy plays and just use the talent and good sense available and I think we'll finish on a positive note. We're past due !

No excuses, losing to Nova and playing against Wilmington College in the playoffs is not what this program needs. We need a win and this test is pass/fail.

The Lost Decade cannot be mentioned often enough.

Carty had delivered at least 8 wins in his first two seasons. That is quite a welcome change.

Beat nova. Win #9. Then…more playoff wins. I don’t care if we beat a patsy or not because it is another win that we haven’t had in a long time. We used to play in a bad conference…No one cared…just counted the wins. Then, we played in the toughest conference (by far) and people only cared about the wins. Now, we play in a poor conference and all I want is to win.

Win.

Period.

If we lose to nova and then go on to win a playoff game or two…I would be bummed about losing to nova but still happy we won a 9th game (or more).

Win as many as we can. Make progress.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

I think Nova has had a better program for a decade, and the results play out on the field. I’m pretty skeptical that we’ve caught up with them. Watch the line play on both sides.

In a nutshell, this is a good summary of where we are and what has to happen to truly break through. Beat Nova, get seeded, win a couple of playoff games, and we will then all be able to proclaim Delaware Football is back!!!

Will be interesting to see who is available for this game. W
Will Marker be ready if needed?
Are Marcus and Kyron Cumby (2 runs yesterday) ready to go full speed? I called for Q to hang in there earlier this season, he could be a key.
How about Chandler Harvin or JoJo (who did not play yesterday). I assume Wimberly is not available.
What remains of the red shirt status for Minicucci, Silver or St.Fleur?

Sessom looks like a player.
Funny, the Camel announcers told us Trainer is a transfer from LaSalle.
No one mentions the Brose bros on the field together.
The one good result of any move would be the loss of Flo Sports. (Break away at 3rd and four and return for 1st and 10 the other way)
Not sure we would lose the HS stadiums though. A move needs to find a league that can match the attendance and interest of BH FB.

That better program starts with lineman. We are finally getting the idea.

Thanks for the recap 77, couldn’t see a whole lot yesterday on iPhone. Kind of like watching the game from a Chinese satellite…

Figure out how to stop The Nova QB Watkins inside the 5, he can beat you with his feet and very quick. Also be ready for that little jump pass they use every year, I’m sick of seeing that play.

This game has all the makings of a classic
Both teams 8-2 fighting for a seed at Delaware stadium

In honor of Joe C… by hook or by crook just beat these irritating prepsters for once
recruiting recruiting recruiting...It ain't rocket science....We need better more athletic players...That simple....

Yup.

nova simply pushed Elon out of the way. They didn’t get cute…they simply lined up and pushed Elon off the field. Weather, weather bleather …they ran 63 times at 7.0 ypc. They ran 49 times against Towson (5.2ypc). 40 times against UNH (6.2 ypc ). Only 26 against Stony, but at 6.1ypc. 52 against NCA&T at 4.8ypc. Only Albany stopped them…but nova had 5 TO in that game. 43 runs with 6.7 ypc against Rhody. Ran 41 times for a modest 3.7 ypc versus Colgate. 31 runs at 9.2 (not a typo) ypc against Lehigh.

This game will be a test. nova has two losses…only one against FCS (Albany…with those 5 turnovers). Not sure why the pollsters don’t like them, but they are looking as though they have a solid OL and a good team.

If we get into a battle of the trenches, it will be a long day. Jump on them early, force turnovers and take them out of their running game.

One of the biggest advantages of successful coaching-provided program stability is being able to develop the lines. I think it takes three years to grow a quality starter lineman on either line, and stable programs get that chance. This is a boys-to-men job.

LaSalle “college”… You can't blame the PBP guy for that? I always thought that was ridiculous 👀

Nova starting OL Michael Corbi was carted off the field in the fourth quarter yesterday. Nova was up four scores...

finpxz1- You get it. The program doesn't get improvement points playing in a conference of weak teams and having a schedule with the very weak on it. Carty was hired to be what every Blue Hen fan wants.... winning consistently clear up the ladder. . This is the opportunity to wake up the fans who left and those who have been yawning through the Hampton, Duquesne & A & T's . Comparing the last 10 years is a total copout. We stunk quite a bit of the time. Can't we give that part of our history a look in the rearview mirror and count on a CAA title in 2023? Why sell this team and this coaching staff short? I for one am going to be totally disappointed if we don't KO the wildcats and win a couple more.

The team can only play the opponents on the schedule. It is what it is. There are 3 decent teams on the schedule. We squeezed by one, lost to another and now face Nova.

Its been said many times, but on a personal note I have lost a lot of my love for UD football and I am really trying to get it back, but this conference is just a joke now. Its really pathetic. There are 3-4 "ok" teams and 3-4 D2 teams, and that's the truth.

People may not like to hear this, but Rocco left a pretty decent team here and so far Carty has been just "ok". Win at Nova and make some noise in the playoffs would go a long way to seeing if we can get to being a top tier team in this dumpster of the FCS.
