FUBeAR pulls back the curtain with a closer look at the Big Sky, he really wants that #2 seed for Furman but is battling an overwhelming force known as the biased FCS media

“Montana has played in 62 Playoff games. 74% of those have been at Home. The Griz are 1-15 (.062) in Away Playoff games.

Montana State has played in 25 Playoff games. About 54% (something like that) have been at Home. The Bobcats are 1-7 (.125) in Away Playoff games.

Combined 2-22 (.083) in Away Playoff Games. That seems statistically significant.

Also saw that Furman had played 38 Playoff games. About 58% have been at Home. The Paladins are 8-8 (.500) in Away Playoff games.”

Count me as a fan who doesn’t fear Furman. I would love to get a shot at Furman even in Greenville in the semis or even the quarters. The Southern Conference is even worse than the CAA. Come to think of it, I am okay with eventually heading to Missoula too. Montana’s non conference schedule was pathetic and they had a lot of close games in the Big Sky and lost to a 4-6 Northern Arizona. But getting ahead of myself. Just beat Villanova Saturday.

Well, Furman destroyed Elon 31-6 last year...so there's that. SoCon isn't what is used to be, but the CAA has lost to too many bad teams from bad conferences (MEAC, Patriot, SoCon) recently to say that we are above them in any way.

I agree that of the top teams, Montana is the one I'd like to face. Too bad it will be in Missoula. Maybe we can pull off a 2-0 record against the Griz.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Furman has been without their starting QB Tyler Huff, a military reservists by the way, the past few game due shoulder injury. Freshman Carson Jones has come in and played very well. They are solid, not spectacular but very solid

Montana has turned the corner once Clifton McDaniel from Spring, Texas took over at QB, he can run the football and Montana is a much better football team right now then the early season Montana

Would love too The Hens play either

After Saturday’s results were in, Stan Becton writing on NCAA .com calls these teams “locks” for playoff selection:

Albany, Delaware, Idaho, Mercer, North Carolina Central, ND State, Incarnate Word, Richmond, Montana State, South Dakota.

He also predicts the following bubble teams to be in:

North Dakota, Sac State, Tenn Martin, Southern IL.

Writing before Saturday’s games he had the following comments:

Guarantee-ish

First, we'll start with the five to seven at-larges that have almost a guaranteed shot — in my opinion — to earn an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs regardless of Week 12's results:

No. 3 Montana and No. 4 Montana State
The winner of Montana and Montana State's game will earn the Big Sky's auto-bid. The loser will still get an at-large bid and be in the conversation for a playoff seed
No. 5 South Dakota
South Dakota only has one FCS loss entering the final week of the season and has wins over four MVFC teams that will be in contention for an at-large spot. Even with a stunning loss to Western Illinois, the Coyotes are getting into the playoffs.
No. 8 Idaho
Idaho likely gets an at-large bid even with a loss as the Vandals have seven wins, including an FBS win and wins over Montana State and Sacramento State.
No. 6 Delaware and No. 15 Villanova
Delaware and Villanova both have one FCS loss entering the final week of the season where they play head to head. The winner of that game is in the playoffs regardless of if it earns the auto-bid or not. The loser of that game will have two FCS losses — Delaware's other loss to Elon and Villanova's other loss to UAlbany. Neither Delaware nor Villanova's losses will be egregious enough to keep it out of the playoffs.
No. 23 UAlbany
UAlbany is 8-3 on the season, but two losses are to FBS opponents and one loss is to an FCS opponent, New Hampshire, by one possession. If UAlbany wins, it's in the playoffs no question. If UAlbany loses, some might question its at-large hopes but an eight FCS win team with two FCS losses and a ranked win over Villanova won't miss the playoffs.

Yes. That could be a first round match up.

Under a 4-hour bus trip also fits the bill for prioritization.

Oooof.

Have to wait and see what other bus trips can be scheduled. Maybe the Spiders are < 400 miles from another playoff team. The committee will try to get as many bus trips as possible in this round.

Possibly, the Flo sports broadcast was saying Lafayette is most likely. We shall see. We can win or lose to either of them.
