UBS arena is really nice. surprisingly they had a ton of staff on duty with plenty of food/drink options despite small crowds
I imagine the teams are paying to play as I can’t imagine UBS making money with a small crowd despite charging $43 for parking.

Davis obviously the man tonight but each time we had a lull and it seemed like URI was going to make a run, we made a stop and kept them at bay.

That’s the difference I’m seeing with this team and teams of past.

Nice win for the Hens. Didn’t realize we had never played against the Rams in basketball. Also, the Hens just swept the season series against the Miller brothers! Wonder if that has ever been done before!

Nice win. Davis was outstanding. I like how we maintained our margin throughout the second half. Earlier in the year, we couldn’t maintain our advantage in the latter half of several games and were especially vulnerable to the dribble drive penetration.

Very nice win for sure, but the realist in me still has significant concerns about this team’s ability to hit from three, as well as our lack of depth in the post. I have to also admit to being disappointed in Houser’s inability to make a significant contribution thus far. He seems to be too slow afoot and not athletic enough to have an impact at this level. It will be a challenge to go the entire season without finding some help in the post…either Houser finds his way, or Moss finally makes his way to the court after 2 years of injuries. Neither seems likely, unfortunately. We also need to find another outside shooter. Can Bethea ever dress and play in a game? Can Drumgoole fill that gap consistently? Can Davis continue to develop his outside shot? All questions that will need to be answered if we want this to be a special season.

Now let’s close out the non-conference portion of our schedule strong. Rider has to be a win (Ryder rents trucks…lol), and then let’s come to play against Princeton and see what happens. Would be a great win against the Tigers, but we need to perform well, regardless.

I could have sworn we played them in the 80s when Tony Tucker was with Rhode Island, before his transfer back to Delaware. I remember seeing him play in a Rams uniform and could have sworn it was at UD. I must be imaging that since I know the UD sports information team would have it right.

Fortunately for Delaware, basketball is becoming a position less sport. Slow podding beefy big men are not needed , especially ones who can’t shoot behind 6 ft. Luckily Houser can shoot 3’s.

not 100% but I think Moss is done for year. We are going to see a steady diet of Ray and Davis again with an occasional 8-10 min from Houser. Outside of Drexels Williams and the Charleston guy, there really isn’t a physically imposing skilled 6’9+ player we will see the rest of the year.

Bethea is that shooter we need. Be nice to have a reporter who can dig around and uncover info unofficially like injuries, you see it with other schools. I don’t think Tres even attended the URI game.

KT was covering the Beast of the East wrestling at the BOB.

He cannot be blamed for not taking a trip to Long Island. Smart move!

The Coach's Show at La Casa Pasta and on 94.7 at 7:00 tonight should be fun.

Thanks Russ. I should have mentioned that I realize he is spread thin so it was more a poke at the lack of coverage vs Tres himself

Understood. I don't think the score or any mention of the game was in the paper.

Hard to believe the Snooze Journal can't even put a paragraph in the paper about the game. Can't they at least have a college intern do a small write-up???

At least use AI. Espn does it for their recaps - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... /401586902 Notice the "author" is Data Skrive...Something is better than noting.

Here is a quick chatGPT recap that took seconds.

In a thrilling basketball showdown at the Holiday Hoopfest, the University of Delaware triumphed over Rhode Island University with a final score of 67-56 on Saturday night. The game marked the first-ever matchup between these two schools, with Delaware, representing the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), having endured a lengthy road trip, and Rhode Island competing in the Atlantic 10.

Jyare Davis emerged as a standout player for Delaware, showcasing his scoring prowess by contributing an impressive 26 points to secure the victory. The hard-fought contest provided fans with an exciting display of skill and determination from both teams in this historic meeting.

Seriously…the News Journal is so lazy sometimes. I mean we do pay for this subscription for local coverage, right???

I guess I knew the answer to the question before I posed it. Instead of asking the coach any insightful questions we get 10 mins of a 30 minute show with Kobe Jerome talking about who is the best dressed on the team. Ugh!!!
