Just for kicks, I did an image search for possible alternate helmets. Here's a collage of a few I found...

Good stuff, TexasHen.

Here's what the hard hat looked like in 1965. I distinctly remember those Old English D's on the side of the helmets and the white face guards, which the Hens wore for many seasons. As the '65 season wore on and the guys butted heads, the painted-on Ds tended to disappear. That's probably why they dumped the Ds in '66 when Tubby came on as chief.

Pretty cool. I wouldn't be opposed to an alt helmet with the state flag (one game), especially with all the 302 shirts and hats coaches wear.

I know a lot of old-timers would hate it, but I actually like the gray (top left) with matching gray unis. I'm in my 60s, but very open to something a bit different.

I'm old-fashioned, I'm all for keeping the helmet we have. I have no problem with the one-off, alternate uniform options, even ones that don't incorporate a winged helmet, but I want us to keep our traditional helmet. I'm not bothered by the Michigan connection - we all know they borrowed the design as well.

Im in my late 60s and love the old school unis with no names or Delaware font in the front. I also love some of the alternate options I see as one offs. I would personally like to see an end to the Black uniforms. Just win though and I won't care much if they wear Bermuda shorts

Many players pull their pants so far above the knee that it looks like Bermuda shorts.

I am very aware of their popularity as expressed to me by some UD players. I was offering MY opinion. Like I said if they win I am ok with just about anything

i like old school best but think all the current uniforms would look much better with simple numbers without the italic font, outlines and the cartoon mascot on the pants. The small old english D doesnt look bad at all on the old winged helmet.

Love all of those, especially the gray.

I know this won't be a popular statement, but I'm going to go ahead and say it: Now that we're moving to FBS, we ought to lose the Little Michigan look. I don't care if it's tradition. I don't care if Michigan borrowed the wing from Princeton. Etc. Etc.

When somebody outside Delaware says, "hey, you guys have the same uniform as Michigan," and then you explain the history, their eyes glaze over and you lose them before you finish your first sentence. Bottom line: Michigan owns and is synonymous with the blue and maize/gold/yellow/whatever you want to call it winged helmet design. We will always be regarded as copycats when we wear it, regardless of any nuanced explanation, and it will cheapen our brand.

So, go with a color variation or a design variation, I say. Be unique.

if we discard the winged helmet, how about an updated version of AKC "Dick" on the helmet? some tradition some new

I agree. To hell with tradition. Nelson never thought UD would play his beloved Michigan. His decision was probably based on UD always being small time football. Hell Princeton copied the design from the original Spalding leather helmet with wings.
I really like the WKU helmet.

Dick the Chicken is a solid logo. Any chicken with crossed band-aids on his beak is OK with me. He always takes me back to my Blue Hen Mall days as a kid and the mosaic chickens at every entrance.

So does University of Kentucky. They appropriated the same chrome dome look in their bowl game.
