Kyre Hawkins
Looks like a great guy but certainly lacks real experience as a DL coach. Was hoping to land someone with a successful record as a position coach in the FCS or preferably the FBS.
Re: Kyre Hawkins
This looks like a Good hire but not a Home Run addition. He may turn out to be a real good one but I was hoping for an experienced addition here. I was keeping an eye out for a name like Siddiq Haynes as well. Hopefully he's a real good recruiter.

Certainly wasn't a hasty decision, but doesn't look like udsob97 was consulted either. I'll trust that Carty and Manny did their due diligence and made a good choice. Time will tell, but until proven wrong, it's a good hire.
Re: Kyre Hawkins
We could use some more DLinemen so it's great to fill this vacancy and hopefully he can help lure some good DL kids to Newark
Re: Kyre Hawkins
"Might be hard to get a DL commitment without a DL coach. Hopefully that's in the works." Atilla's post was rightfully concerning about the situation 10 days ago. Not sure why my concern over the inexperienced hire would be any different.

Kyre looks like an "up and comer" to me. He has had stops at good places, always advancing his brief career.

Yep, it doesn't hurt to learn from as many people as you can. It looks like he's done just that!Info Hound wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 12:37 pm Kyre looks like an "up and comer" to me. He has had stops at good places, always advancing his brief career.
Proud to be a F*king Blue Hen
Re: Kyre Hawkins
We don’t need no stinking’ up and comers.
We need men. Real men. Experienced men. Top men. Definitely not inexperienced guys to coach our Delaware boys.
I mean, we have a real life example of complete and utter failure of a previous coach hire with little experience. Some guy named Tubby Raymond had only two years experience as a “line coach”…at little ol’ Maine (for goodness sake…MAINE!!…not Nebraska), when some dude named David M. Nelson hired him.
What a mistake, eh?
udsb97 obviously protested that hire…for consistency.

Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS
Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Re: Kyre Hawkins
Hawkins coached the defensive line at Division II Emory & Henry College during the 2021 spring season. He helped lead a defense that allowed just 33 total points while the team compiled a 3-1 record in an abbreviated schedule. Under his tutelage, the defense led the country in sacks with 26, averaging of 6.5 per game, and boasted the conference defensive player of the year with three all-conference linemen including two first-team honors.

Re: Kyre Hawkins
Well, KC hired a 29 year old defensive coordinator today at SHSU. Maybe younger coaches will be able to handle the ups and downs of the new college football landscape better than more seasoned ones.

Agreed. A young aggressive guy that wants to grow and make an impact, is a good way to go.
Don't be surprised if he climbs the ladder further after a few years.

6.5 sacks per game?!?!?! I don’t care if that was a family Thanksgiving touch football series…that’s impressive.72 Hen wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:12 pm Hawkins coached the defensive line at Division II Emory & Henry College during the 2021 spring season. Re: Kyre Hawkins
Exactly, I'm sure he'll be fast-tracked if SHSU has success over the next year or so. A good mixture of older and younger coaches is beneficial to a football program. Some older coaches have forgotten more about football than most people will ever know, while younger coaches may have different perspectives, ideas, etc. It's good to have balance.Info Hound wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:41 pmAgreed.
