Interesting to see how this pans out with respect to changes in athletics that are coming up.

Re: UD Financial Issues
“Assanis told the JFC on Feb. 1. “High inflation rates have driven up prices for all the goods and services that the university needs to continue to operate.“
Ya’ don’t say…
Increases in costs everywhere…yet uncontracted raises will be delayed.
Perhaps they didn’t get the memo.
On a related note…how about deleting a good portion of the latest staffing hires for silly positions unrelated to actual learning?

Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS
Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Ya, it doesn’t sound like a good time to get a match on the NEZ project like the university did with the WAC. I think it was $25 Million.

Re: UD Financial Issues
“Higher education institutions across the country are having to navigate both near- and long-term financial challenges,” the statement read
If UD is having financial issues, and it’s really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, Imagine the impacts being felt by some of the less well off schools that play football at the FCS level. Maybe these realities had something to do with the expedited move up to FBS. UD abandoned the FCS ship before hitting the iceberg. Just because it was the right time doesn’t mean I have to like it though, 2024 football season just feels empty. We’re is my box of Kleenex

If DA is in Dover “begging” for money, how can he justify spending UD money to subsidize the 80M indoor practice facility?

Re: UD Financial Issues
Their endowment is $1.78 billion. How can they not have money? Can they not use the endowment to fund projects like tearing down the Towers or NEZ or indoor facility?
Also, they just spent how much to change conferences and now crying because they have no money. Thats some bs

Re: UD Financial Issues
You are right on Cluck. Perhaps a little too politically correct, but we know what you’re saying. Blame the greedy capitalists / free market types - go to central planning. And continue to support useless functions in UD.Cluck U wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 2:33 pm “Assanis told the JFC on Feb. 1. “High inflation rates have driven up prices for all the goods and services that the university needs to continue to operate.“

Re: UD Financial Issues
Because the people that "endowed" that money to UD did so with specific instructions on what it could be used for. A $50,000 endowed football scholarship can not be spent to cover employee heath care cost; neither the principle (the endowment) or the interest (the scholarship).UDFootballFan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 3:21 pm Their endowment is $1.78 billion. “Central planning”??? I get a hoot out of these posts. So glad I live in Delaware, especially Newark where these views are in the extreme minority.77HEN wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 6:47 pmYou are right on Cluck. Anyway, hope UD doesn’t screw up this FBS move and infrastructure plans with a sudden cry of poor.

if they were just loaning Janet the 1.8 billion, Janet would pay em back about 100,000,000 a year
“The target spending rate for the Endowment is 4% to 5% of the three-year average market value as determined annually by the University’s Board of Trustees. In Fiscal 2023, the spending distribution to the University was $73 million, providing financial support and flexibility to the University’s operating budget. In recent years, the Endowment’s role in supporting the University has become more meaningful as funding from the State of Delaware has declined. This support is likely to become even more important in the coming years given the challenges facing higher education today.”
