Mind you…the beer was originally only for season ticket holders. It was only through a lot of pushback from the hoi palloi (yup, I was one of those pushers) that the snobbish, self-defeating, stupid rule was changed.

So, the next time I purchase a beer at the stadium, I will happily make a toast thanking that Z-Daddy is no longer at Delaware, while admitting that Z played a large part in me making that toast!!!

Oh…there were a few more small minded people other than Harker involved in the firing of Keeler. Never let facts get in the way of a good grudge, though.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

Bluewyn Gold wrote: Tue Feb 27, 2024 11:37 am Hard to blame Ziady for everything that went sideways during the Harker years. Historically, the ADs at UD have not had as much influence DIRECTING athletics as you'd typically see at a BCS school. They were largely ADMINISTRATORS of the AD, with the Student Life and Athletics Committee actually providing the direction. This covers the tenure of Nelson and Edgar, for sure. During Bernard's and Ziady's tenure, there seems to have been a swing more towards the CEO having more influence than the trustees. That definitely seems to be the case now.

I'd appreciate the insights of others who might now be closer to the program.
The good news is that everything and everyone is aligned now for athletic success. While Tenn Hen may think the quote started with him, Assanis was actually the one who said that athletics are the front porch to a University.

I don’t blame Ziady for everything. Harker much worse. But Ziady didn’t help.
Yep. But hope UD doesn’t stumble now with crying poor.

And I don’t blame EZ for everything either. But he was a stiff and an order taker with no vision just like EJ.

And is someone really going back and trying to justify perhaps the worst firing in UD history?
I don’t think you understand just how bad UD’s situation is regarding their infrastructure (and that doesn’t count the non-productive (read that as income producing) staffing growth, which has its own “infrastructure” ).

That’s OK…UD has never made their number very clear to anyone (both inside and outside of their organization) and most people/organizations don’t bother to think about replacing/repairing things that cost millions of dollars…they just push that expense down the road.

Let’s just say that UD isn’t going to experience a lot of tuition freezes.

Hey pal, truly a lame sentence in your post attempting this personal attack/putdown. Your lack of comprehending that my reference to the "Front Porch" concept of athletics was simply a direct quote from prez Assanis is shocking. I have referenced ad nauseum that analogy on gohens ever since his acceptance speech. It is not mine!!!!!I He was spot on when he stated that fact. I do understand that the egos of some of you guys here can't accept good points from those who may have a differing opinion than yours. I attempt to utilizing empirical data in making my judgements as well as our teams performance in action. I don't claim to always be right. I don't seek confrontation, but if it comes- like your post-OK- maybe an apology for your naive off base zinger might be forthcoming. No "with all due respect" bs needed.

Many of our teams suck and don't reflect positively for a major state institution like ours. Why do they suck"- it's simple cause-effect. Our lost decade transpired because UD has been small minded in their approach for the last 50 years. They hired the wrong ADs who hired the wrong coaches and this story has repeated itself up to the present. The most significant means to developing a promising program is hiring QUALITY coaches who have proved their metal. Who's job is it to hire these professionals? the AD. CR, as I've posted, did an outstanding job with the facilities project at the stadium/Whitney Center. I assume she was hired due to her experience in fund raising. I don't expect much thought went into her experience in hiring. IMHO her coaching selections have been underwhelming at best and horrific in others. I'm damn tired of watching mediocre teams season after season. I applaud the recent FBS move. Now where is the horse shoe addition to the stadium that many of us want or the other promised work to the NEZ? If UD continues half **** into this move up and doesn't hire the right staff, then WTF is the sense of moving to CUSA since we can't even win the CAA title in FCS? asking for a friend

Huh?? Not reading your entire essay but the “athletics is the front porch” that President Assanis said when he got here is what I’ve been waiting to hear my entire life. Far from a differing opinion.
