Brittney Griner’s number was retired by Baylor on Saturday. When will Elena’s #11 be raised to the rafters?

Provocative question since UD has NO retired numbers. Gannon, Flacco, Pegues, Booker, Brunner, DellaDonne, etc., etc.

I’m not saying #11 should or shouldn’t be hanging from the rafters in the BOB, but it is does call for a deeper conversation.

Is that not something we do around here you’re right we don’t have any retired numbers we should consider it thing about her is I haven’t really seen her being too active as an alumni. I know she was doing the WNBA but they have plenty of time in the off-season, I’m wondering if she hasn’t really had an interest in our program since leaving ? Anyone know she’s been keeping in touch at all could use her as a mentor. The women’s team this year is a train wreck.

Does EDD appreciate UD as much as UD appreciates EDD?

Has EDD donated to the UD renovations like other successful professional athletes?

BTW, 16 & 5 would be my choice for the 1st two retired #s.

Don’t think there’s any coincidence that the BCC addition with the offices and practice facilities went up while EDD was here. And not just for basketball, but also for Volleyball.

EDD may not have directly donated, but I would probably guess her Father did at some point.

EDD put Delaware on the national stage. No other athlete has done that here IMO. Delaware was ranked in the Top 10 or 20 when she was here and it ain't happened since.

The donor for the basketball/volleyball practice gyms / BOB annex has never been revealed. After that Ernie Della Donne constructed the first building on the Star campus. Just sayin’

Well, if getting a UD team to a top 10 or 20 national ranking deserves a retired jersey, perhaps we should look back to our recent national championship field hockey team and our past national championship women’s lacrosse teams for our first retired jersey recipients. Or, our national semifinal men’s lacrosse team players (and the recent success of our #2 drafted lacrosse player).

As jd mentioned, a larger conversation is needed to put things into perspective before we start down that path.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

It's not really that hard to make happen. Just acknowledge those few that were above and beyond and made Significant impact like so many other Sports programs in this country.
