Praised for his “character and integrity” but fired because his teams were not “competitive”.
His first year he was 21-11 and second place in the CAA but had 4 straight losing seasons since.

Brian Earl leaves Cornell to take the Tribe job.

I think that is a very nice hire.

Nice guys don't finish first...or something like that.

Brey was a nice guy with integrity and he did finish 1st. UD might consider choosing a nice guy with integrity but who finishes 1st more often. Ya think?

The recent .500 or better yearly winning records at UD are only accomplished through the level of competition in scheduling. Not just in CAA, but with our OOC as well. The beginning 5 wins for this year certainly helped. I delved into our overall OOC schedule and found 4 teams(Xav, Princ, UNCG, and Ohio) rated higher than our #170 Ken Pom rating as you might expect. Then I peaked at our wins v teams in the #300s- loads of them in and out of conference. There were 6 CAA teams rated about us in the 100's. Our splits with Towson(#146) and Stoney Brook(#169) gave us 2 wins above our #170 ranking. All the other wins against were lower rated teams that produced mass quantities of wins.

Voila- As the Emperor Joseph II stated in Amadeus "well, there it is"
