Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Why cant Martin keep any talent in Newark?
Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Oh well. Would have probably happened anyway but the blah last two years sure didn’t help.
Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Come on man! Take a look at college basketball. It's tough to fault Davis considering his graduation and probable move to a Power 5 school, where he'll likely receive a substantial NIL deal. Have you contributed to the Blue Hen collective to help pay Delaware athletes?
Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Very disappointing news but not unexpected. Probably watch him on the ACC Network this Fall

Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
A GH poster asked me at a mid season game what chance did we have keeping Jyare at UD. I said 0% and he agreed.
Perhaps that is why we are pursuing ( per Rooneyguy in the “Happy Portal Day” thread) James Patterson. A D2 transfer from St Thomas Aquinas.
23.9 ppg
8.5 rpg
44% from the field, 35.9% from 3 point land
79% free throw
6-7, 200
Conference player of the year, 1st team all conference, 1st team all East region (D2).
Charleston has had great success with top D2 transfers
Thanks to Jyare and the best of luck next year!

Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Whaddya gonna do? It's part of being a mid major these days.
Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Patterson is more of a wing, so it makes sense to be targeting someone like that with or without Davis. But yes, it's a good well to pull from.mpwerrell wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 2:33 pm A GH poster asked me at a mid season game what chance did we have keeping Jyare at UD. I said 0% and he agreed.

Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
It’s gonna be real tough for us to maintain any momentum without NIL money And some winning seasonsInfo Hound wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 2:24 pm I wish Jyare and his family the best.

Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
I guess you are new to college basketball. You can ask the same question to every coach in the mid major landscape! We will never be in a major conference so this is going to be a yearly event in Newark and elsewhere.
GO BIG BLUE!
Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Wonder who is next?
"Incoming transfers Zion Bethea and Niels Lane, who committed to Delaware in the past week, are New Jersey residents who first played together in middle school on the King Street Kings AAU squad.
“The reason I chose Delaware was because I already have chemistry with the guys on the team,” Bethea said."
Davis seemed to be the catalyst for Bethea and Lane coming to Newark.

Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
This has been happening before the NIL was so relevant. Also, Del has money. Dont let them fool you; they just dont invest in NIL for athletes [yet]gonzo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 2:02 pmCome on man! Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
I think at the next level Jyare will be playing wing. He is very talented close to the basket but at the next level he’ll be facing bigger/stronger competition. His game will need to develop further away from the basket.UDHoops wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 2:42 pmPatterson is more of a wing, so it makes sense to be targeting someone like that with or without Davis. One could argue that if we had a bigger frontcourt presence this year, Jyare would have been able to play wing.
Re: Jyare Davis to the Portal
Jyare is a very nice player at our level, but I worry that he may be over estimating his ability to be a significant contributor at the highest level. He didn’t even make 1st team CAA. Can he be a 10 and 5 guy at UConn, probably. Can he be a 17 and 8 guy at that level, doubtful. Regardless, wish him all the best and hope he finds what he’s looking for. MI just got another scholarship so he and his staff better get to work.
