Going to be interesting what she does with Carty’s contract? Was his first deal “4 or 5” years? Does she extend early & give him 3 years in FBS? I'm not sure, I give him much more than that in CUSA? Is less than a 3rd place finish in year 3 acceptable? In the power 5 winning is the most important thing and that part of her resume is not strong. This has to be a make-or-break year for both the Mens and Womens basketball coaches. Not convinced this football coaching staff is FBS quality. We shall see how she grows and remedies these issues over the next few years, she will probably still be here.
The timing of Carty's hire and the move to FBS comes off as moving the goal posts after the game has started. Yes, he moved the needle forward for UD football in FCS. However this is his first HC job so is he ready for the move to FBS? In all fairness to him, he needs some additional time starting with the real move into CUSA play in 2025. Those were two of the things I felt were of paramount importance at the end of the 2023 season prior to the move up to FBS. They are even more important with the move up. I read Rojas' interview and it came off to me that he is open to some change this year in terms of size, placement of players, and some more frequent 4 man fronts. Hopefully going into 2025 he will move even further away from the 3-3-5 that includes the acquisition or development of some bigger, stronger D-linemen and/or linebackers. There are probably more than a few reasons Carty does not want to give up the OC duties, but at some point he is going to have to.
