And do it sooner rather than later to help with recruiting. I know people don't think the athletes care about stuff like that, but a lot do. Heck, there was no way in the world I was going to play for a team that had purple as one of their colors.100% correct. It was a lazy move using the mascot as the brand logo in the first place and an even lazier move maintaining it for as long as they have.
The school is investing a lot of dough in elevating its AD. It would make no sense to NOT rebrand for 2025 with a fresh logo, uniforms, etc. IMO, it would be a major mistake not to take advantage of this incredible promotional opportunity.

And as much as i love the Hens winged helmets, tradition etc. With the move up, i think Its time for change as to not still be " little Michigan" but our own brand.Bluewyn Gold wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 10:52 am100% correct. Both are beloved mascots that engage and entertain fans, especially the kids. However, their faces shouldn't be the primary logos of their respective organizations. I don't want YouDee to go anywhere, I just don't want to see it everywhere.

I love the winged helmet and think it should stay. If they could do it in three color schemes, that'd be great. We get to keep the tradition, but add a little flair to it. We'd be the only team in FBS with multiple winged helmets, that'd be pretty cool IMO.
Re: Delawares new helmet logo to the right
That would be something worth supporting. Helmets are expensive, no?
Re: Delawares new helmet logo to the right
SDSU former players bought their white Jackrabbit helmets. I floated an idea about a Delaware Football Player Alumni Association to do the same. Unfortunately, it got shot down and I was told they already have the Blue Hen Collective. Maybe it's something the Blue Hen Touchdown Club wants to take on! ☺

When Wolverines grow wings.... THAT's when WE should change our helmets.Bluewyn Gold wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 11:04 am I'd be VERY surprised if we didn't make some alterations to the helmet design and/or colors to more clearly distinguish the Fightin' Hens from that other winged helmeted team.

Looked like the NY Giants were plagiarizing the UD winged helmet today. Wonder if they paid royalties?

Spalding, Rawlings, Wilson (and others) began making leather helmets with wings in the 1920s and continued into the 1940s. The leather wings were originally designed to provide additional frontal padding/protection. Riddell introduced the plastic helmet in 1939. The first known team to sport helmets with painted wings was the 1930 New York Giants, followed by the 1931 Chicago Bears and Frankford Yellowjackets, The 1947 NY Giants were also the last NFL team to regularly wear a winged helmet. Michigan State wore gold helmets with black wings in 1933. Fritz Crisler first painted Princeton's Spalding winged helmets in 1935. When he became Michigan's coach and AD in 1938, he had Michigan's winged helmets painted maize and blue for the first time.

Since she did such a bang-up job with the logo I use here, I asked my grand-niece if she would send me a few new helmet design ideas for Delaware. She sent me a bunch, but here are some of the ones I liked best. If you're interested, I'll put up some of the others I liked. The others are much different than the current winged helmet.

I realize I am in the minority but I like tradition. I would like to see our initial season in the CUSA highlight more Blue and Gold. That is who we are.
