I posted the following on the MAC Board
Wonder who the MAC is working on as an affiliate. All the usual #14 candidates mentioned: Illinois State, WKU, and NDSU do not have men's soccer.
Curious reply from the MAC board and wonder if you guys can comment on the contract length.
I wonder what the terms of the Delaware affiliation contract are, because even if Delaware is not interested in being a full MAC member, the Summit is an awfully long way to go to play men's soccer. If it's a two year affiliation with extension by mutual agreement, they'd be free for the 2027 season.
https://csnbbs.com/thread-995767.html

Adding explanation to note in above thread. Regarding for an affiliate not Delaware, because you are committed to the Summit and like to see men's soccer return to the MAC. The teams in the MAC have a history of being in the top 10 for a number of years. W. Mich is currently ranked #4. Akron was a former national champion.

Men's soccer now 4-2-1 after losing their first conference game in a heartbreaker to #20 ranked Elon.

Hens had a 3-0 lead and gave up 4 straight second half goals in the last 25 minutes of play.

Apparently a wild game...Elon had two Red Cards...plenty of Yellow Cards on both sides.
Oct. 12...long range forecast is for sunny skies.

Perfect day for sunglasses. 8)

That’s like losing in football after being up 35-0, not a heartbreaker, more like a choke job…
UD to FBS. I never thought I’d see the day

It is even worse...Elon two short-handed goals.

From UD's website:

ON THE RECORD
"To lose a game from that position is embarrassing and unacceptable, and the responsibility lies with me first," head coach Tommy McMenemy said. "We moved away from all the things that were working, and I should have recognized that earlier. I'll look back at the different ways I could have managed the game better at 3-0 and will learn from the experience."

"The Hens returned to the second half on a high from their 2-0 lead, only to be met with an extremely emotional second half
Elon scored their first goal twenty minutes into the second half, another goal made was revoked due to an offside call.
Two ejections occurred for Elon; one on the bench and one for a field player.
In rebuttal, Elon scored two goals less than two minutes apart while operating a man down.
The fight for a draw grew more intense for the Hens as Elon scored another goal with ten minutes remaining in the match.
Delaware's offense could not overpower Elon's defense, resulting in a disappointing loss for the Hens.

GAME NOTES
Eleven yellow cards were issued alongside one red card for the Elon bench. Elon player, Majaliwa Msabaha, received two yellow cards resulting in his ejection."

Up 3-0.
Elon scores first goal at 66:40
Elon Red Card to the bench at 67:22 (wonder what someone did to get that card?)
Elon 2nd goal at 69:08 unassisted after a UD Yellow Card at 68:56
Elon Red Card (2nd Yellow) at 69:37
Elon 3rd goal at 71:17
Elon 4th goal at 80:39

So, UD had a man up for 20 minutes, and got outscored 2-0.

Ouch.

Like the coach though. Took responsibility.

He has done a good job with this program. Hope the team learns and rebounds.

tough loss to take for the team. I respect the coach for his humility, but the guys should never have allowed that debacle to occur. It reads like with the cards/removal of the 2 Elon players, we should have packed in the D and denied Elon. The loss of that sure win may come back to haunt us :( How our kids respond will tell volumes about how they've learned their lesson. I believe they will respond positively and support their coach.

A player doesn’t come off the field when someone on the bench gets a red card. The coach or player on a bench that receives a red card is simply removed from the bench area/sidelines and cannot contribute to the game in any way.

Soccer is weird. For example: What the heck is “stoppage time” used as OT at the end of regulation? Why don’t they just stop the clock during the game like a normal timed sport?

my bad Cluck- I goofed! I still would have followed a similar if not exact strategy. Protect that w with a half to play.

dchen- they do stop the clock in college soccer-I favor that policy. otherwise the clock runs and the referee determines extra time which can be controversial

Hens lost a tough one to Charleston 1-0. Didn’t realize how good the CAA is. In the top 25, Hofstra is ranked #12, Elon #14, Charleston #23 and next weeks opponent Campbell is RV. Hens have shown they can certainly play with top 25 teams, just can’t get it done so far.

Playing better this season than I thought they might tbh.
