UD Softball Pitching

Post by BlueHenBill » Sun Mar 21, 2021 3:21 pm

UD Softball needs their current pitching to improve significantly and/or an influx next year of better pitchers.

Bill;
The lady Hens are 8-1.
They have outscored their competition 72-30.
In their one lose they gave up 10 runs.
In their 8 wins they have given up 20 runs...2.5 a game.
Overall they have given up 3.3 runs a game for the year.

Blue Hen pitcher Emily Winburn was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.

Winburn allowed just three singles and did not walk a batter while striking out eight to earn a shutout in Delaware's 2-0 win over UAlbany on Sunday.

Winburn is 2-0 on the young season, posting a 1.11 ERA by allowing two runs in 12.2 innings of work. The shutout of UAlbany was the second of her career.

Bill; this post is an example of why people can not take you seriously. You whine about everything and now I expect you will try to argue your weak, weak comment. And now your favorite emoji

Henway, You make some good points and UD just got a very good pitching performance from Piening in Game #2 today vs. Bucknell. I was reacting to their most recent three prior games: 5-4 vs. Lehigh, 8-7 vs. Lehigh, and 6-10 vs. Bucknell. The pitching trend was not moving in a good direction. In order to win a CAA title and advance to NCAA play, UD will need lights out pitching because that is what UD traditionally faces from JMU, Hofstra, etc.

Why wasn't UD the third seed instead of Elon? UD was 9-5/0.64.3% in the CAA. Four Home games vs last place in the North Towson cancelled due to covid in Towson's program. One home game vs. #3 in the North and CAA Tourney #5 seed Hofstra was cancelled due to (I believe ) weather. UD split 3-3 vs. Drexel #1 in the North at 13-5/72.2% and #2 seed in CAA Tourney. Elon was 10-8/55.6%. So UD had to play the #4 vs. #5 seed first game today (UD won 1-0) and then play lager in the day #1 seed & host JMU playing their first game with their top pitcher It appears that UD's cancelled games were all counted as losses when it came to CAA Tourney seeding. Otherwise, I can't figure out why Elon would get a higher seeding than UD. Either way, UD got ripped off with regard to seeding due to cancelled games that were not UD's fault.

It was a good day for the softball team today. In the first elimination game against Elon, the Hens were down 5-4 in the 7th and hit 2 home runs to win 7-5.

In the 2nd elimination game against Drexel, the Hens got out of a bases loaded jam in the 7th and then hit a grand slam in the 8th to win 5-1. The grand slam was the first HR & RBIs of the season for the girl who hit it and it was cool to see how excited the team was as she was rounding the bases.

Hens face 33-1 JMU tomorrow and need to beat them twice to win the CAA tourney.

Way to go ladies. Did I see it right that the JMU pitcher pitched back to back no-hitters?

RPI at 27. Have to think they’d be in play for an at large spot depending on how serious the committee takes RPI.

Nice season but the Hens are seeing how far they still have to go. JMU up 11-0 and it’s still in the first.

For what it's worth, JMU just defeated Missouri and qualified for the WCWS a few minutes ago. They won going away at Missouri's home field. Quite impressive!

BTW- watched my first Women's LAX games. Boston College crushed the Cuse going away and could have padded their score, but simply showed mercy.
I was blown away by the quality of play by both team's athletes. Possibly more exciting than the men's games.

what happened to Henzone's zinger post? I was going to thank him for his concern for me after his reference to" JMU kicking Tennessee's a**" (quotes from his removed post!

WOW!!!!

JMU just beat Okie State, the #5 team. Two great wins against Oklahoma programs who were basically playing at home.

No unseeded team has done what JMU has done in the World Series.

Gooooo JMU!!!!

I have little interest in softball , especially JMU, but that was a fun game to watch. The team is filled with talent and personality. I second that WOW!

Odicci made the play of the year to save the day for the Dukes.

Don't know how much gas is left in their tank but I'm rooting for them.
