...And I will never forget that 62-0 disgrace. It was probably the only time in my 57 plus years of attending UD football where the team didn’t show up and then quit from there. It is the only time I ever left a game at halftime. I told my wife, “if they aren’t going to play, I am not going to watch”.
I was at that game. Brock still owes me for my gas and game ticket.
I didn't just leave that game - I left the entire season. In case any of you were wondering why we don't have scores on that season at GoHens, or why we did not have the Top 25 Pool, You have your answer. I checked out. That was the only Blue Hen game (Fightin' intentionally omitted) I've ever watched where I was embarrassed to be a Delaware fan. The Pitt fans around me in the stadium were sympathetic. I just felt sick. That was not MY Fightin' Blue Hens.

Rich talked me in off the ledge for the 2105 season!

Dark times indeed.
I was there at Heinz as well and totally agree. To me in many ways, it was the most disturbing day in Delaware Football history.

Well it is just that now, history, and thankful the program is back on the upswing.

It hurts bad when we see our boys humiliated like that. Hopefully, never again.

From Delaware State News report today:

Crowded QB room

With at least seven quarterbacks on the Hens’ roster in camp, there’s no shortage of players at the position right now.

Rocco thought it was time to split up the QBs into two groups.

With Nolan Henderson the starter and Zach Gwynn the backup, Rocco has also put running specialist Anthony Paoletti and Cade Pribula in the top tier for now. That leaves youngsters Deven Bollinger, Mike Campbell and Ryan O’Connor in the second group.

Pribula has emerged some in preseason after getting over a shoulder injury that limited him in the spring. At 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, the sophomore is a little bit like Henderson in that he’s undersized but has shown some elusiveness and throws the ball well.

“We kind of wanted to see what Cade can do here early,” said Rocco. “And he did well early. He’s a natural thrower. He can get the ball out quickly, he’s accurate.

“Nolan is elite,” Rocco added. “After that, I like what we have. I think we have guys who can finish games. I think we have guys who can prepare to win a game.”
If anything can be salvaged from this season it would be Pribula comes in and plays well

Part of me thinks if Rocco thought Pribula was ready he would’ve already been playing

But then I remember what this stubborn Coach did to Henderson

Rocco will never think a backup is ready enough. It will always take an injury to the active QB for us to see what's next.

His record on QBs is better at Richmond than Delaware. But hey, he was right that Gwynn wasn't ready in general to start in '21 (obv.) That URI start :!:

Gwynn is ready now. He has inaccurate patches but he's willing to stand tall in the pocket and launch to Pitts. Everybody in behind him and AP Saturday. Cade has more of the NH makeup but he's a puppy--if staff is putting him through same prep Henderson the puppy had, outcome could be real good there

What's the word on Zach? Good to go for Sat? Practicing with 1st team this week? Is Cade getting any time just in case?

Puppy? Isn't this Pribula's 3rd year in the program? You see true freshman playing all over the place at different levels and we're worried that Pribula, 3 years in, still isn't ready? If that's the case it's even more of an indictment of Rocco - how can you have a first team, all-PA QB for three years and still not have him be game ready?

It’s an intricate and complex offense they have. Besides, Coach doesn’t want any running around, you have to be willing to stand in the (instantly collapsing) pocket and go through progressions

Yep. Should be obvious.

And Dan, you are a smart young guy and doing many admirable things like HERO sports and pursuing your passion at SU, but you should probably loose a little of the homerism and cheer leading, especially as the season spirals into a shitz show. Rocco rightly deserves at lot of criticism about manning the QB position, among other things. And Gwynn has looked at best serviceable against SB and horrific against RI. And he has worse than “inaccurate patches”. Even our at times laughable homer announcers said he misses many throws. And calling a player three years into the program a “puppy” is simply silly. Finally, no need to mention Kehoe again. Still can’t believe he started over Henderson.

Wow. There are good posts and then posts that just nail it. GF is 1000% correct - we’re in the age of kids playing earlier than ever but yet Rocco seems stuck in a previous generation. What are he and Ambrose doing? How do you have a third year program kid with a pedigree not ready to kill it? Problems like this kill programs. But yet UD seems cool with things….

I know UD fans don’t want to look at or hear about polls anymore but there is still a familiar face at the top…

Cmon guys, I’m sure Dan is getting enough lectures in class and he has to come on gohens and hear several more? :D

I don’t want to speak for Dan but “Puppy” could mean he has no game experience.
