The NCAA has already granted another season of eligibility for 2020 spring and fall semester athletes. Voting today on whether to extend that to winter 2021 athletes. There are lots of recruitment implications either way (i.e., could Painter get another year?). Stay tuned.
Understood and sounds possibly great for UD. I think something being overlooked, does He want to be a 24-25 year old senior playing college hoops? Even these guys eventually want to move on with their lives.
How marketable is a BA in History? 🤔
How marketable is it being a 10 and 6 guy on a mid major basketball team. The BA in History has as much potential. And I guess it would have even more if he stayed at Nova!!!

Looks like NCAA has voted in favor of allowing winter athletes another year of eligibility. I believe they also voted for allowing a one time no sit out transfer starting next season but looking for a source. Painter, Allen and Anderson can play another year if they want.

Will be interesting to see what happens and what UD’s roster looks like in 21/22.

My two questions are:

will the players staying past their normal eligibility expiration count against the scholarship limit?

will UD be willing to extend and pay for their scholarship?

The way 21’ recruiting is going, UD may not have a numbers problem and at this point, if the above 3 commit for another year, that is your “21’ recruiting class”

Purely speculation but of the 3, I could see Painter playing another year due to only having a true 1.5 years of PT in his college career.

On the flip side, if the NCAA does allow a one time sit out transfer, the above 3 could be free to go elsewhere in the 21/22 season.

The other thing are the juniors, soph and fresh. They all get an extra year of playing so technically Gardner would have 3 years with us, Curtis 4 years, Carr and Arletti 5 years.

This could play out in several different ways, including having Anderson and Allen decide to go elsewhere (either now or later). I agree that Painter, if I were him, might want to stay around. Like him, I sat on the bench for two years in college, but would have loved another season to play once I was in the rotation. Lots of upside for a player in that; few downsides.

Given the lack of new recruits signed for 2021, Martin and his staff might come out of this in great shape if they can keep the roster together. Other places may well find themselves running out of scholarships without doing some roster purging or withdrawing offers. I know that coaches run players off all the time, but it is often a messy process and can damage recruiting connections. Just saying.

I haven’t seen too many Jobs posted for history majors recently - the point being an extra year, would give him a chance to earned an advanced degree and land a better job. 🙄

Not that it matters but I think you may find he also has a degree in history. Maybe I should have said Jimmy Buffett instead.

As MI said last year, college athletics are now going to be the wild, Wild West.

2020 - 2021 - 2022 Roster
Seniors - Allen, Anderson & Painter
Juniors - Gardner, Long (still on scholarship ?) & Ochefu
Sophomores - Asamoah, Curtis, McCoy & Novakovich
Freshman - Arletti & Carr

1) That's 12 scholarships (If Long is still receiving one) ... Leaving one in the pocket
2) With everyone getting a free year of eligibility and if everyone stays, this is our roster for this season and next season.
3) And with waivers as available as Halloween candy, Curtis and Ochefu should be on the floor next month.
4) No inside knowledge from me, but the university my not want to pay for additional scholarships, even if the NCAA allows them.

Despite the loss of Mutts and Darling, there is a lot of talent on that roster.
