Re: College Basketball Coaches
I's go with Mark Few and Shaka Smart just to be outside the box.
Can anyone argue with Few's ability to recruit and get the utmost out of what he's got? Look at how he's positioned his program to always be in the hunt.
And for my money, I'd put Smart in my top 2 today. I've seen some pretty darned good in-game adjustments from him each and every time I see his squads play. They got out-classed in the Big East final, not out-coached IMO. The guy can absolutely coach as well as the bigger names in the sport.

It seems like no one on UD's coaching staff has any recruiting contacts outside the NY-VA region unlike UD'opponents who get hoops players from all over the US, Europe, Canada, and Australia.Hens79 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 9:52 pm Maybe Calapari’s star is dimming a little with another first round/early loss? #14 Oakland just beat #3 Kentucky with a DII transfer guard that shot 10-20 on 3’s. And oh yeah … they made 15 3s total.
And #11 Duquesne beat #6 BYU with 5 players 6’7” or bigger and 4 of them from foreign countries … Mali, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Serbia.
Go out and get guys they can play MI. They are out there.

JMU didn’t have much basketball history till this year, maybe a little back in the 80s.bluehens2005 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 12:09 amJMU ….I am a little jealous….We can only hope things will get better in Newark, but our history doesn’t give me great hope.
Hard to believe the Hens beat up on them just two years ago. But just shows how quickly a turnaround can happen.
Re: College Basketball Coaches
Yep. Things can turn around quickly. Charleston in our own conference is another example. And McNeese too. They won 30 games this year with a new coach coming off 11 last year. New coaches are usually the common denominator.Udforever1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:57 amJMU didn’t have much basketball history till this year, maybe a little back in the 80s.bluehens2005 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 12:09 amJMU ….I am a little jealous….We can only hope things will get better in Newark, but our history doesn’t give me great hope.

Re: College Basketball Coaches
I believe the University of Kentucky should look seriously at Dawn Staley as a candidate for the their current opening of Men's Head Basketball Coach!

Re: College Basketball Coaches
I don’t know why anyone would want to coach Kentucky men’s basketball. They have the most entitled fan base and donors.
And I agree with Pat, Dawn Staley will be successfully coaching men somewhere. But I wouldn’t wish the Kentucky job on anyone.

Re: College Basketball Coaches
I'm old school. I just don't believe the opposite sex should be coaching either mens or womens Basketball teams though it's not considered unusual these days for womens teams. Women coaching mens teams just seems much more of a stretch.
as to Ms. Staley-I believe Dawn will remain where she is and become a Woodenesque/Summitesque legend for the womens game. Gino is right up there as well.
edit- just clicked ESPN and saw VanDerverr retired from Stanford-

Re: College Basketball Coaches
That is certainly great motivation.
I think she could handle coaching males, and all I want is the best coach and IMHO, she is in that discussion.
I think Nick Nurse has done a nice job with the Sixers, But being a Philly native.......That may be a match made in heaven?????
No right or wrong answers

I see they reached out to Jay Wright, He's so smart.
Very underwhelming hire.
