Caribbe,

Let me help you finish that a bit:

188 Maine

193 Penn

202 Albany
215 Campbell
238 Bryant
245 Sacred Heart
254 NCA&T

Gosh, that make 5 teams (4 of them from the mighty CAA...below Penn...with Maine very close.

Great, it is settled then...you agree with me.

We both think Penn would be an average CAA team...which with our schedule, would make them one of the best teams we would play this year.

Just in case anyone missed it, we have played 6 of the bottom 7 CAA teams (Elon squeaks in there). Every single one of the teams listed below has a losing record (both in conference and OOC).

Monmouth
Maine
Elon
Campbell
Albany
Bryant
NCA&T

Facts are hard. :D

finpxz1 wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 7:25 am As much as you try to continue to change the narrative, this has always been about Penn specifically…not Harvard, not Nova, not Bryant, and certainly not Texas A&M. So using your ridiculous logic there are at least 3 MAC schools better than Notre Dame, right??? My point has been, is now, and will continue to be, is that Penn (not Harvard, not Nova, not Texas A@M) would at best be a mid-tier CAA team and not a serious contender in the conference. You and others were talking about them like they were something they are not. The fact that we struggled to beat them that day was more a reflection on our performance and NOT the Mighty Penn Quakers. But if it helps, I’ll acknowledge that Penn would likely beat Bryant. Hopefully they finish the season strong and are able to escape last place in the Ivy.
Changing the narrative?

In case you have forgotten, it was you...back in this thread on post #15, that decided to throw in the Sagrin ratings as a measure of how Penn ranked versus our other opponents.

That was you, wasn't it?

So, when I point out the silliness of those rankings, you then say that I should not be using those very same rankings to compare teams?

Furthermore, when I point out how our opponents did against Penn's similar opponents, you ignore that information. Does everyone get Penn's best game while our CAA brethren just lose their focus whenever playing anyone else but us? Hoooey...pass out the tinfoil hats!

By the way, I never said Penn was great. I simply said they would be one of the best teams we play this year. They came in fresh and prepared and almost walked out with a win.

This thread is getting a little silly over something that really has no impact going forward. I can tell you I spoke with a former Penn Athletics staffer late this summer who felt this was going to be one of Penns better teams in recent past. He might have been a little off and that happens, but I sure haven't hammered him about it similar to what's going on here.

Not worrying about Penn....Rhode Island, Campbell and Villanova ahead. Let's get it done

Yup.

For some reason unbeknownst to anyone but himself, fin decided to start a thread...a whole thread...about Penn and his opinion about others' opinions about Penn.

Wheee...and then he ignores the facts and simply throws in some non-specific defense of our CAA opponents (none of whom have lit the world on fire) because...CAA...or something.

In the meantime, we have Rhody (a team picked by Sports Illustrated to finish 7th in our conference and picked to finish in 8th by the CAA Pre-Season Coaches poll) coming to town.

Rhody is 8-1...but with no significant wins and no significant anything.

Where is the astounding, impressive game result for them? Beating Holy Cross 20-17? Getting shut out by Minnesota 48-0? Campbell 21-9? Beating LIU 28-21? Beating Brown 31-21 (same 10-point difference as Penn)? Beating a mediocre UNH 26-9 is probably their best outing. Beating sad sack Maine 24-14 isn't impressive...nor is a 37-28 win over a bad Monmouth team (Rhody was losing 28-24 until they scored to make it 31-28 with 1:15 left in the game...and then returned a fumble for the last 6 points on the last play of the game).

8-1...but nothing very impressive. We should be able to beat the Rams.

Campbell should provide a nice soup for a snack.

Then, we finish with nova. nova. A slow starting, questionable nova team. Two decent wins (against Stony and a demolition against Maine), but the Wildkitties have consistently struggled this year. They looked bad against Colgagte before the finally put together a decent 2nd half. Their signature win versus YSU turned out to be blah as the Penguins are 3-7.

I like our chances against nova...but we don't really know who will be on the field for our Hens. Will Carty REALLY try to win out, or will he use the last game to preserve some redshirts? That is a huge question.

waiting for the ball games coming up so I thought I'd reread the football thread here on the Mighty Penn Quakers. It's hilarious from page 1 right through the continued drivel above. The pettiness about our schedule which sucks any way you look at it is sad. This bs about how important(must win) every game is to next year is absurd. We look now like we looked in game 1- "nothing to write home about". Excuses abound and a number appear to accept the facts. Maybe we can play a bit like we would like to play next season- that would be encouraging. Praying for some astounding portal pickups for our LINES.

edit- 2 typos above

The coaching staff has a lot work to do for next year, especially on defense. We need an entirely new defense scheme and fresh talent on D. Especially up front on the defensive line. I'm worried based upon what we have seen from the team this year against low tier FCS teams. We have played one Luke Warm FCS team in Richmond and got blown out. Next week RHODE Island and NOVA will tell us a lot. If we lose them both and get blown out its time to make major changes.
Well todays Richmond might be a luke warm FCS team if you’re living by 2008 CAA standards, but in 2024 Richmond is nationally ranked and actually look pretty good but yes, we should of beat them

You 03 raise some good points but your hyperbole always seems to derail your posts
Well, we will see about Richmond, they are 16. Rhode Island 14 and Villanova 13 are ranked slightly ahead of them. These are the only real teams we play this year. The rest of our schedule is awful and many tiers below everyone we will play next year. We failed the first test and only test we have had so far with Richmond. Penn is not a team that should have been competitive with us.
03, describe “many tiers below” Hampton is rated higher than Kennesaw St…

Of the bottom 10 FBS teams, 6 of them are in CUSA. (Massey)

Despite that, Nobody will argue that we need to get much better everywhere for next year. I want an athletic durable QB we can get excited about.

Richmond is warming up now at #9 in coaches poll and #13 in Stats … only 3 more weeks of CAA polls to go forever

Coaches poll
9 Richmond
10 Rhode Island
11 Villanova

https://theanalyst.com/2024/11/stats-pe ... 25-poll-10

11. Rhode Island (8-1, 5-0 CAA), 829
12. Villanova (7-2, 4-1 CAA), 799
13. Richmond (7-2, 5-0 CAA), 683

Interesting how both polls have CAA teams in groups of 3

Penn is not ranked but they did put up 67 points against Cornell this past Saturday

Penn will host Harvard this Saturday

Harvard is currently ranked higher than every CAA team on Sagarin formula
