New FH Conference

Post by Udforever1 »

Field Hockey joining the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, a new field hockey conference that right now has just UD and UC Davis. The hope is to get it to 6 teams next year to make it eligible for an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

The A10 must be happy with 7 teams. Odd number of teams which I understand isn't desirable but they do have a 1 team cushion versus the NCAA required 6 should someone drop out.

Sounds like a failure from within the Athletic Department…
UD to FBS. I never thought I’d see the day

LMAO- then crying- WTF- BS- just another example of poor incompetent leadership and decision making by our interim and previous AD. How is it possible that a storied UD FH program wasn't gobbled up by a decent quasi local conference??????????
Rolf left- smart guy and great coach. How could we manage to lose a fabulous guy and high quality coach who gave us a NC! the only program in modern history to accomplish that national recognition.

Just now realizing that the future presently in sports is not so rosy  :(  Like I posted a few days ago, the BOT needs to get off their butt and find a qualified experienced AD to allow us to reach some reasonable goals most of us desire. Sorry about the frustration, but WTF
Keep the faith kick butt go Hens

Eh, I disagree here. It’s far from an ideal conference but KT has an article out today where the NFCA director all but admits that programs didn’t want UD in their conference because of the success they’ve had. Seems petty to me.

Some quotes also from the JMU coach, who had to go through the same thing a few years back, playing two years as an independent because no one wanted JMU in their conference.

Travel wise, sounds like its gonna be an expensive fall next year.

Let me add two things 1) Like another poster said, seems like Rolf was smart and got out while the getting was good 2) A damn shame that no conference really wanted us because we were good for so long.

This is almost laughable -- if it wasn't so sad. Perhaps the move to FBS was not as well thought-out as it was touted to be?

This is awful. Would rather they stayed independent a little longer rather than join this garbage league! Feel bad for the student athletes. Can’t imagine this will help recruiting.

I would imagine the opposite. JMU coach said her recruiting suffered being an independent. The conference is far from ideal but I’d rather a shot at an NCAA tournament berth, assuming they get enough teams, than wasted seasons playing as an independent.

Do we play best out of 3, for the conference championship next season in a 2 team conference? And does the runner-up get a trophy!

I could be way off base, and coach me if I am wrong as I don’t follow UD sports as much as some, but this is a huge miss.

I think Chrissi brought the athletic department forward quite a bit, and I don’t know the interim AD, but this is a big miss.

Field hockey is a program Rolf built to national
Prominence and the fact we didn’t get added to a respectable east coast conference tells me the AD lacks connection, foresight or both. This is ridiculous.

AD wears a lot of hats, manager, salesperson as fundraiser, and needs a regional or national rep. This conference is ridiculous.

On a somewhat separate note, I hope we can get out of the Conference USA in two years for football but this move makes me wonder how desperate we have become.
