A while back, UD and Penn State were both club teams. UD has beaten Penn State before (and beat their club team earlier this year)...and our Hens have even won the D1 club level championship.
However, Penn State recently decided to field a varsity team and, after making a semi-final appearance in last year's NCAA playoffs, just played in front of 74,575 fans against #2 Michigan State outdoors in Beaver stadium.
Sad to see their separate trajectories.
In the meantime, our varsity women are 2-30 (not a typo...thirty losses on our inaugural season).
Hope our women are able to build a successful program...ice hockey fans will come out for a good product.
It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.
It will take a few years to build a successful program. We have the youngest women’s ice hockey roster of all the NCAA Division I teams, mostly comprised of freshmen (17) and a few transfers (4). I thought we should have brought in a few more transfers for the first couple years until the freshmen developed. If our football team had to play with over 80 percent freshmen, I’d imagine we’d fare not much better.
