There's an old salesman's adage about trying to sell a product that has a flaw: "If you can't fix it, feature it" From UD's perspective, the product flaw is that we are a mid major with limited funds for player compensation. The feature would be the message to recruits that we might not otherwise be able to land:

"Come play for us. If you play well enough you may attract interest from richer programs (citing our players who have moved on to Pitt, Va Tech, Cal, Syracuse, etc.) No hard feelings - we'll help you move on (or stay)if that's your desire" We'll pay you what we can but more importantly you will play a lot - more so that sitting on a bench with a P4."
[/quote]

I agree with that approach and believe that MI and his staff have been using it. Actually, given the NIL situation, it is the only logical thing to do.

UD's 2026 recruiting marketing slogans:

"Springboard U."

"Come for the playing time. Leave for the money."

"Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Show Off at the Tub!"

"Bobbing It for Prime Time."

"Delaware: The First State to Show Your Worth!"

"UD: Blue Skies & Gold Future!"

After watching Illinois beat Iowa last night, maybe Delaware should try to recruit some players from the Balkans (Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Greece). I believe they had six players from this region.

Yep. And it should be all foreign born players in general. Have read and heard even more are becoming available because they can make more NIL $ in US colleges than they can at home in professional leagues.

Portal officially open now.

With Bliss, Emory Reilly and Fernandez moving on and Houser potentially out for half or maybe all of the year, MI will need to recruit practically an entire starting 5.

7 return as of now. , all IMO should be depth pieces. 6 spots to give or 8 if they go to 15

Thanks UD Hoops for the updated player lists. Looks like the men’s and women’s rosters will need to be completely overhauled. We are losing 3 of our 4 top scorers on the men’s team with Bliss, Fernandez, and M. Emory entering the portal and Houser probably missing most if not all of the year. We are losing our starting point guard (Bliss).

The women’s team is losing 5 of our top 6 scorers with Cherisier, Fantroy, Correa, and Vance entering the portal and Wanzer graduating. We are losing our starting point guard (Vance) and our two main rebounders ((Cherisier and Fantroy).

Both teams will require major rebuilding efforts.

I'm going to butcher his name but I remember Kietus Messalunis or something like that - from Lithuania. Played well.

WTH?

Losing teams...and the top kids are still looking to play elsewhere. Nope, they aren't looking to stick around and build and improve together...no team pride, no school pride...they just want out of Delaware (and, presumably, a bigger paycheck).

Wheeeeeee!

It's unofficial, but Jeff Goodman pegs it at about 42% of all division 1 players have entered the portal. Yes, we're above average, but not by much. This is a systemic problem that folks like Jay Bilas begged for. Good for players, horrible for fans. Michigan won with a 100% portal team, but Michigan isn't a mid major. All levels are impacted, but none more than the mids.
