I dont care about metrics. Literally explaining what was shared and the rationale.
Solid schedule. Last year we had 1 P4, 1 A10 and 3 home OOC games against d1 opponents. This year we have 2 P4's, 1 A10 and 5 D1 home games. I would say thats an improvement despite the other 3 non d1 games
So far Liberty and Mo State both have 3 non D1 games on their schedule
Correction…last year we had 4 D1 OOC home games (St Peters, Iona, CSUN, and Rider). In addition, we only had 1 non-D1 game (losing to Wilmington U). So this year we have one more D1 OOC home game and picked up 2 additional non-D1 home games. Keep in mind we lost 2 conference games this season so we essentially replaced those games with Wilson College and Georgian Court. That’s just sloppy.
I really like the two P4 games, as well as some of the other non conference D1 games (JMU, W&M, Stony, Duquesne, etc). But the admin just blew it with 3 non-D1 games that will do absolutely nothing for us. And certainly nothing for fans/alum. And the metrics argument discussed during the podcast was almost laughable. Just par for the course for UD Hoops. One step forward and two back.
As Cluck mentioned, the time for excuses is over. Either MI and his staff show significant improvement this season or a change has to be made. I’m feeling optimistic about the kids they brought in, but it has to translate into results on the court.

Right, Dave. Two things can be true. I think we all agree that we don’t like three non D1’s while acknowledging that it’s a really solid schedule otherwise.
There’s a really good basketball podcast with GM Ghandi and MI on Feathers and Field Goals where they dive into scheduling a bit.
Think I've seen enough of this "GM" so i'm good. If UD waned to torpedo their basketball programs they're doing a real good job with him leading the charge

Having an opinion on a guy who has had one full off-season in which the guys he acquired haven’t even played a game yet together is certainly interesting.
Hey Lifetimehen,
I certainly feel your frustration about the lower level teams on the Hens schedule. If you don’t want to listen to the GM on the F&F podcast, here is a quote from Kevin T’s article in DelawareOnline:
“…Delaware is following the lead of several of its conference cohorts who’ve found such games are more beneficial in the NCAA Evalution Tool (NET) rankings than playing or even beating lower-level Division 1 foes.”
This NET discussion is a total joke. Non-D1 games don’t even count in the NET rankings, so it’s as if the game(s) wasn’t even played. It serves no benefit for UD other than potentially risking injury. If we’re all of a sudden so concerned about our NET, go schedule more Quad 1, Quad 2, and Quad 3 schools and play them competitively. And the biggest joke is that UD’s NET ranking will have zero impact on our ability to make the tournament. We either win the CUSA tournament or we’re out. It’s really that simple. Just another attempt by the athletics department to try to justify this BS. As I mentioned previously, if we ever want to turn this program around, we need to think bigger and bolder. #NoMoreExcuses!!!

Just trying to provide some information from different sources.
I like your passion though!
Reality is NET is a big part of the selection process and while an at-large isnt likely from CUSA unless a team has run like Miami OH, getting a 12 seed vs a 15/16 seed is and a big difference in winning a game/more revenue to the CUSA teams which in theory provides more rev share to pay better players. Not sure why this is so hard to understand and why teams are realizing that playing a 300+ net team, unless you win by a wide margin, hurts your NET score. Just like UD football slightly moving up in Massey because they won by more than the spread against Merrimack.
Injuries as to why we shouldnt play these games? Are you kidding me? Anytime they walk on the court for practice, there is a chance for a season ending injury. Absolutely silly reason to not play them.
I dont love these games but quite frankly, if its playing UMES or Morgan St, or these teams, I dont care. At least these games wont hurt us if we dont win by 40.
Exhibition v Towson at T on the 17th. I assume this will be the best chance to see what we look like before the season kicks off. Meanwhile UTenn has a free open scrimmage tomorrow at TB Arena. DaveB- please fill us in with your inside info - thanks ahead of time
Hah. No insider info. I’m just happy to see the entire team practicing per social media
Towson exhibition in 11 days will be a solid barometer on what we have. They have some nice pieces .
The Deshawn Harris Smith-Zion Stanford matchup will be one to watch. Both big physical wings coming from power programs although read that Harris-Smith may run point at times for us
Towson also has an intriguing d2 guy in Atkinson at 6’10 who I believe we were looking at as well. Hoping to see good things from Solano
