Just back from Not-So-Happy Valley...

The positives:
1. I thought our punting looked good - despite some of the comments on the game thread. Kost got off 3 or 4 real nice ones.
2. Team did not quit. This was NOT a repeat of 2014 Pitt - the only Hen game I've ever left being embarrassed to be a Delaware fan!
3. We did better running the ball than I expected. (I did not expect much) We do have some speed as evidenced by Yarns' TD.

The negatives:
1. Tackling. We tackled high. PSU ball carriers were consistently getting an additional 5-6 yards after contact.
2. The lines. Totally outmatched on both sides. I honestly don't know why PSU was even bothering to pass.
3. Passing Game virtually non-existent. We did take a shot deep early on, but then gave up. Everything else was 4-5 yard dinks. And where were the YAC so many on here promised from our "best receiving corps ever"?

Can we now stop with the playoff talk? We are NOT a top 20 FCS team - not even Top 25. I don't want to hear how we have a "favorable" schedule. Wake up. We will struggle with New Hampshire, Elon, and Villanova at the very least. And this just in... Campbell is Mmm-Mmm GOOD!

Those rules that apply to everyone else - they apply to us too. Such as... You don't replace as many starters as we have this year and expect to make the playoffs. This is a rebuilding year. They happen, and it's ok. We'll get better.

Early punts sucked. He punted well as the game went on.

Small sample size for receptions. Our WRs didn’t get the ball in space…only 6 catches and Bermuda high broke one. Also…how many times did O’Conner toss the ball out of bounds to a WR on the sideline? Awful throws today.

Elon lost to Gardner Webb.

Two CAA teams lost to MEAC teams today…and Richmond lost to one last week.

Campbell looked good…but against The Citadel…picked 8th out of 9 conference teams.

Tough game at PSU…but we still can make the playoffs.

Disappointing performance today. Yes, we were overmatched but we were also sloppy. The QBs were intimated and played nervously. We had guys open but the ball wasn’t delivered accurately. They both were bad today, I’m concerned our QBs arnt capable of delivering accurate throws over 20 yards down field consistently.

We were a few broken tackles away from a few more stops on D. We are once again going to have issues with good power running teams. The staff really needs to make some adjustments on D scheme and personal wise agains the power running teams. We should not get run over by Elon again.

Despite this it’s not time to give up on the season. We can still make the playoffs and get better week to week. We ain’t beating any of the top 5 teams though.

Agree...we certainly didn't play well and missed several opportunities, but even if we played flawlessly, probably wouldn't have mattered much other than making the final score not as lopsided. Having said that, still no reason this team can't make the playoffs. We still have a ways to go to compete with the Dakota's, but this version of the CAA is not what it once was. Anyhow, fun time tailgating up in Happy Valley today...now let's get to work on being competitive at the FCS level.

Coach; there is another way of looking at it. There are at least a billion Chinese who don't know the score or care less about it. On to next week...

I hope Rawak watched that press conference & heard RC’s message: UD should not be playing PSU.

Let's hope Carty is able to run it up on SFU! #GoHens

Albany played Hawai’i close. UNH lost to FBS CMU on a walk off FG. Idaho destroyed their FBS opponent Nevada 33-6. Fordham beat FBS Buffalo 40-37. EWU got nipped by FBS Fresno 34-31 in double OT. The Salukis beat FBS opponent Northern Illinois 14-11.
Tubby: 3 national titles, one won on the field, all D2
Keeler: 3 national titles, all won on the field, one as a player, two as a coach, 1 D2, 2 FCS
Carty: 2 on-field national titles, one as a player, one as an OC, both FCS

Carty - get an FBS bowl win!

I'm still trying to figure out why when Penn State sends two TE's in motion, we make NO pre snap adjustment? They did it TWICE on our three yard line, we made NO adjustments and the RB waltzed into the endzone.

I told one our former great players during a by gone era, no matter who we played, they were in for a dog fight on both sides of the ball. Yes, we were overmatched but.....................

Good post HR. I also thought the running game had some positives. Besides the Yarns run, the Penn State speed was apparent anytime our guys got to the second level though as they were quickly swallowed up. Against FCS schools we may break a few more.

Stayed to the end and there wasn’t really much to watch in the 4th so I also was very interested in how we would respond being down by so much. I didn’t feel we quit at all either, guys were still picking each other up on the sidelines and when the 2’s were in, the 1’s weren’t just sitting on the bench, they were up supporting.

A fun experience in Happy Valley. I actually thought Va Tech had a better atmosphere though that may have had to do with it actually being “somewhat” of a game.

Agreed, we did not quit. I am glad that all, or almost all of the players that traveled, played.

I also thought that the things that Ryan said after the game, were appropriate. Paraphrasing:

A lot of G5 teams would not have fared better.

The Lions are closer to the Cleveland Browns that we are to them.

Good on Franklin subbing deep into the bench, and only raunthe ball on their last possession. 63 was bad enough. 70 would have been even tougher to swallow. Fine with me if PSU wins the whole thing this year.

Which is exactly why the last two coaches were canned. Some 21 months into the Carty Era, I am seeing progress and energy that had been lacking.
