Are we ready to jump up?

Post by dovetail »

I don’t know if the CUSA rumors are true but I wonder are we really ready. We aren’t in the FCS championship conversation much right now and judging from today we have a lot to do. Others who have moved up left FCS with little left to prove like JMU, AppState and GSU. Theoretically, a move up should bring better athletes but that is no guarantee. UD fans who have been accustomed to eight win seasons might have to accept that they may no longer be a given. Win at this level first, I don’t want to join UCONN and UMASS.

Future CUSA rival New Mexico State beat Auburn by 21 today and collected a $1.8 million check in the process.

Are we going like FBS like next season or going to have a few transition years where we are not allowed to qualify for the playoffs? Are we pushing forward fast to avoid the 5 million dollar fee increase?

We get one cycle to recruit for the extra schlorships? Do we hire an FBS quality coaching staff or keep the same one?

The Hens are not ready…..

Moving up has absolutely nothing to do with success on the field at the FCS level. We could be 0-11 and could still be successful in moving up. Moving up is all about facilities, program support, money, etc. Heck, even Georgia State has a decent FBS team now and they were horrendous in FCS. Delaware can be successful in moving up. Start the process now (announce as soon as basketball is done) and get it moving. Maybe CUSA won't be the final stop, but we can't get to the better landing spot without first moving up.

Georgia State has been successful because of the fertile recruiting area. It seems for every Hofstra, Boston University and Northeastern there's a Georgia State, ODU or actually the entire Sun Belt East. At least we have been able to dip into Virgina and maybe the transfer portal will help. The Northeast hasn't been a football hotbed for quite some time...

Details:

Auburn was 6-4 playing at home.

NMSU is probably the THIRD best team in CUSA this year.

JAX State almost beat Auburn this season(Had game won).

CUSA is a Good league.

Liberty stomps an improved UMASS by nearly 4 TD's.

YES--Most in CUSA would Like to have UD join!

Speaking the TRUTH^^^

The better FBS portal players are unlikely to go fcs.

FCS success (which Delaware has) is only one factor.

If we have the opportunity, we should do it. It is not going to get any better where we are.

If the AD and BOT see a way to do it, let's go.

Not to be too technical...

The exact amount was $1,850,000. That will pay for a WHOLE LOT of airline flights.

I still feel that they need to demonstrate they can consistently win, and make playoffs, before making a move up to the next level. Sat we were dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Tackling was poor! To make a move up at this time, would be a bad move. Nobody wants to see a team that has a consistent losing record. Attendance will suffer, along with revenue. Very few fans will make those plane trips out west to see them play. Overall they need to win consistently at FCS level before making the move!

"rival"

I don't think anyone really would consider a school roughly 2,000 miles away from Newark, DE as a rival if we join Conference USA. Being in the same conference as someone does not a rival make.

Also: Jerry Kill is a helluva coach and has done wonders with that program since taking over

Liberty, NMSU, and Jax State are good teams. Western Kentucky is ok. Rest of the league is probably equivalent to the middle of the Missouri Valley.

It's not a "good" league by FBS standards but it has 3 good teams (2 of which are headed by former B1G coaches and Chadwell probably will be a P4 coach soon.)

We probably are a middle of the pack-ish CUSA team this year based on Massey and other metrics.
