Soccer headed to the Summit League. I’m somewhat surprised they couldn’t find something closer. Other teams include Denver, UMKC, St Thomas Minnesota, Oral Roberts, and Omaha. Talk about travel.

Does not sound fiscally responsible. I can’t believe all those schools plus ours are going to travel to and from Delaware for a soccer game. Strange Times indeed!

I agree with you posters-The Summit League- unless our AD knows something that hasn't been made aware to us, this is a surprise. There are some good teams. Maybe the league is planning to add more teams from CUSA( or CUSA to be)where there is presently no soccer. Missouri State comes to mind.

edit- what about the women???????????????

CUSA already offers WSOC.

Interesting rundown by KT, regarding the degree of difficulty for our teams moving to CUSA:

Wonder if this portends an expectation that we won't be there for very long and other moves are envisioned just a couple of years down the road? No one really expects CUSA to be our football home, without changes, for the long term future. Maybe they didn't want to park this sport in a spot where they couldn't easily move them out of later?

All this movement towards long distance conference foes plus the P5 practically making national conferences. I wonder what
The Gerard J. Mangone Climate Change Science and Policy Hub at UD has to say about that. The universities push the climate change issue just about more than anyone. Watch what they do, ignore what they say.

Chrissi gets the L on this decision. Ridiculous.

+1 Further UD's move to all synthetic turf fields (softball to be the latest & presumably last) which are full of forever chmeicals such as PFAs is irresponsible with respect to player/coach health and the environment when synthetic turf fields are replaced and the old synthetic turf fields are just dumped somewhere.

+1 IMO this is probably not good for UD Men's Soccer. I am guessing that the Summit League was the only or nearest conference that would invite UD Men's soccer. If so, what would you have AD Rawak do? The Men's Soccer situation may be repeated in other seemingly not geographically desirable conference destinations (assuming that they all can even find a conference home) for UD's 6 other sports that have yet to find a conference home.

Imagine all of the Frequent Flyer Miles these guys will get. Those miles add up to significant free travel, which reduces the expense of travel, which reduces the cost associated with travel related expenses, which reduces the overall impact of the cost that travel has at the expense of the climate in our time.

Cackle, cackle.

Glad UD and other academic institutions are finally getting on board with the compelling arguments from the minority on at least one important topic, climate. The increased travel due to conference realignment will be a drop in the bucket, or really a molecule in the air, but it is at least a start. You gotta start somewhere, especially when you are part of a movement trying to do the right thing.

/s/ aka cackle cackle

Finally, probably not many really care what conference the soccer team plays in temporarily. When you are in the process of making big and needed changes, everything isn’t perfect. The overall direction is what is important. Hmmm ….

Some kind of cognitive dissonance. Must be painful.
