Yeah don’t love that. Would much rather play an independent year, even if it’s against mainly FCS schools, than have an agreement in place of how many scholarship guys we can use.93BlueHen wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 10:39 am Chrissi states in press conference that UD can move to 85 scholarships now, but will not field more than 63 scholarships when playing CAA teams next year per agreement with the CAA. Defered to her underlings on how that will work.
Assanis states total athletic budget will increase in the 10% range to ~$50M.
As posted in another thread, $3.5M of $6M transition/exit fees already raised.

It sounded like the leak prompted the announcement. I wonder when it would have happened without it.

Perhaps we still pay 85 schollies, but only dress 63 of them plus walk-ons on CAA game days in 2024?

Rotate around the young guys and keep them all at 4 games or under to maintain the eligibility heading into FBS/C-USA play in 2025.

I really like that Assanis is not afraid, even jokingly, to discuss gameday experiences at Penn State and Michigan and potential much larger stadium expansion. This lack of dreaming and aspiration by people like Edgar Johnson is the reason we're not, at the very least, an AAC team now, and like our immediate neighbors Maryland and Rutgers, something even bigger. But at least we've begun climbing that mountain. Finally took someone with some cojones.

Agree 93. Said he had three goals when he got here. A med school, 5 million square feet on Star campus and FBS football. The fact that we have a President who has an athletic goal as one of his main goals for the university as a whole is such a welcoming change.93BlueHen wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 10:58 am I really like that Assanis is not afraid, even jokingly, to discuss gameday experiences at Penn State and Michigan and potential much larger stadium expansion. HARKER: So how would we do this? So think about this, right. So we make them employees. That means not only for the football and basketball players, but with Title IX, we have to do that with all our student athletes. Now our costs have gone up dramatically. How can we afford to keep doing this? We would just drop sports.
And I'll tell you what we would do at the University of Delaware. Most likely we would drop all our varsity sports down to club status because we simply could not afford to provide varsity athletics.
recruiting recruiting recruiting...It ain't rocket science....We need better more athletic players...That simple....

I will never forget Harker (we were at a Fed sponsored meeting) leaving our table when I mentioned Keeler. Dude just got upset and left…didn’t even take his drink. Never came back. His body guards (yup, we pay for that) were wondering what the heck happened.
Happy that guy is gone. He came to Delaware and spoke to the Huddles group in his first week or so. Faculty members were upset that he talked to football folks before meeting with them as a group. Everyone at the football meeting was excited and he talked about football in a positive tone. Effing farce…he tried to kill our program in every way imaginable.

Not to worry about that.
