Ha! We're only a few weeks away from our official departure from the CAA. In another year, it's doubtful anyone here will still be discussing the CAA, FCS, etc.
In all honesty, I don't wish a single one of those programs ill will. I'm just delighted not to be associated with any of it anymore.
Texas State is in talks with the PAC-12, which would reduce the Sun Belt to 13 teams. This would likely result in the Sun Belt backfilling with a CUSA school, likely WKU or LA Tech.
From the article: Texas State’s potential departure from the Sun Belt — if a deal is reached — is expected to set off a chain of realignment moves within the Group of Six conferences. Officials in the Sun Belt, in fact, have already held internal discussion over potential expansion targets in Conference USA, most notably Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky, according to those familiar with the talks.
Are we going to be the CUSA stalwarts after one or two seasons?

If UTEP and LA Tech are going, glad that they come to us this year.
Keeping WKU and MTSU matters more to me.
Best outcome for you guys, but remember WKU has wondering eyes as jumping out of the Sun Belt in 2014 and wanting the MAC before signing the GOR. The MAC needed 2 additions to reopen the media contract, but MTSU backed out and there was not enough political will for UMass until our new Chancellor arrived. It will be interesting to see if there is any movement after the CUSA GOR expires.
You guys did well move to FBS as there is a lot of movement in CAA Football. Believe someone posted here that the MAC told you guys not now, guessing the timing was summer '23 and UMass did not reach out to the MAC until late September.
FIRST--I disagree with Steve--and he's a good poster.
But...Does he Know WKU? Has he spoken with High officials at WKU? Who does he know--that has contacts at WKU? (me).
I'm NOT privileged to know what the decisions may be at WKU--but I do get some information. I'm not going to talk about who I know or brag-but you might be surprised.
Would WKU have taken an SBC invite? Probably--especially if with MT.
Can I speak for Delaware's future plans? NO.
WKU is not going anywhere--unless SBC goes to sixteen or has a LOT of additional turnover. The MAC is not in the plans; the AAC is probably not likely either.
Even though WKU may entertain an SBC invite "SOMEDAY" in the future--CUSA is a good league for us.
Also--IF CUSA gets STRONGER in performance and revenue--and it's future aligns with WKU--no move needed.

"CUSA EXPECTED TO STAY AT TEN"--Brett McMurphy (Action Network)
I was glad to see that tweet.
There Are Advantages for being at TEN vs 14 (admittedly there are some for 14 also).
--**Conference decisions are easier; less room for "sides" or cliques to develop among Presidents; ofttimes less dissension
--Ten teams>>Nowhere to "hide"
But teams finishing 12-14 sometimes get lost in the shuffle; also teams 10-14 can form a Big Basement--which becomes an anchor in FB and BB ratings, etc.--that happened before in CUSA
--TV games-if you are in a league with 10--your slots will likely increase and provide more national TV airings
--Championships--your odds of getting a Conference championship and an NCAA bid are higher--of course it doesn't always work out that way--but you get the idea--it DOES help some
--General Media coverage-if a media outlet is doing an overall discussion of G5 leagues and they give each 5 minutes or "X" amount of story space--naturally each individual school will get more time or "ink" with just Ten to discuss
--Scheduling--Basketball--EVERYBODY loves "round-robin" since it gives you the true Champion (no unbalanced schedules).--In BB a ten team league would have 18 games (round robin). Football--you'll see All the schools more often--unlike going three years without even playing someone in your own league!
--MONEY--do you want to split that BB unit 14 ways or Ten?? And the more BB success you have the better. ANY--ANY other income (besides the CFP set amt.) will only be split 10 ways vs 14.... Bowl money, Sponsorships money, Media revenues Naming rights, and all miscellaneous revenues (which can be significant)
**This point is more important than you think!
CONCLUSION>>>Many G6 leagues are trending smaller--and NO--not just because they have to--But because in these times of limited Revenue And Higher Costs it is one of the few ways left to Increase Payout to member Schools.
PAC--8
MW--9
CUSA-10
MAC--12
TEN?
The BIG TEN made it work pretty well for a lot of years.
Expand to a 9 CUSA football schedule.
- Del State or similar OOC game
- Power 4 away game.
- Home / Home G6 game (home the years we have 4 CUSA home games & away years we have 5 CUSA home games)
** Note - Minimum 12 schools required to have CUSA championship game.
Round-robin basketball schedule. IMO the current 10 school CUSA should be highly competitive. Possibly the NCAA auto and at least one and possibly two NIT invites.
It's a single source, but I’m hearing Tarlington State is one of the few schools with the stomach to pay the $5m entrance fee to move up.
