Blue Hen Touchdown Club

Post by Ramblinrec74 »

To all Go Hen posters, I would like to ask you all to consider joining the Blue Hen Touchdown Club. Membership is $60/yr. With membership it entitles access to all BHTC functions like, weekly luncheons, annual banquet, etc. Members will receive weekly Game report and statistics on our UD Football team and opponents. We are hoping in the future to offer access to our meetings via Zoom, for those who are working or out of area, so that members can listen to our Coaches speak each week as well as all our special guest speakers. Membership dues go to funding the following: 1) Weekly MVP awards for offensive, defensive, and special teams MVP's as voted by Coaches, 2) Our Annual Football alumni Golf Outing & Social, 3) The UD Annual Summer Football Camps, and 4) the Annual Senior Banquet for Graduating Players, their Families, Coaches, and Athletic Dept. Staff. I would like to ask all supporters of Blue Hen Football to consider becoming a member by signing up at our website: www.BluehenTDclub.com. Help us support our Blue Hens as we move into Conference USA. Any posters that are free on Thurs. 7/10, consider attending the Party in Conf. USA event held on north green of mall, to celebrate the start of a new era in the Delaware Football Tradition. The BHTC will be there. Look for us!

Free event, but they ask for a registration...probably to get an approximate attendance guess so they can provide enough goodies.

The BHTC will have a table at the event on Thursday. Stop by! We will have some give aways, a raffle item or two, and some football alums! (RalphD58, you too, please come by!)

Learn about the Club, and what we do and support. We will be on the right side of the Green, between Harter and Sharp Halls, next to the dunking tank.

Delaware Avenue will be closed from 3:00 to 11:00 (the event is 5:00 to 9:00), with a planned ferris wheel, rock climbing wall, and more!

Come on out!

Weather doesn't look as though it wants to cooperate for tomorrow's Blue Hen festivities. Showers and T-storms likely in the afternoon and evening...although one forecast is bucking the trend by saying the rain will come earlier and take down temps and fuel leaving the evening drier.

Hope UD gets to pull this gig off, but if the weather gets funky, or if one wants to continue the party afterwards, there are plenty of options.

For those driving into town, Delaware Avenue will be closed to car traffic from 3-10pm. Give yourself a few extra minutes to get into town. Should be plenty of places to park in the designated area lots on and around Main Street. Most are city run, but there are several private parking options. The city's parking app is pretty user friendly and convenient.

Do not park in the Newark Shopping Center...they are known to be very active about towing cars as they have security watch people park. If you park and get out and leave the shopping center, they will tow your car. I would also recommend you not try to park in the nearby neighborhoods...people are very quick to call and get cars ticketed...and that happens easily with the new automated licenses plate readers. If you don't have a local parking pass and park on the neighborhood streets, you will get a ticket.

If the rain/storms get too heavy, Grotto's will be the closest watering hole, and The Deer Park and Klondike's haven't changed much in the last 20 or so years. Santa Fe Bar and Grill, Iron Hill, Home Grown, Cafe Gelato and Taverna are still Main Street staples. Grain on Main (formerly East End Cafe) is also still there.

The best of the new places is The Greenhouse Gastropub. Very solid menu and drink selection with a solid atmosphere...especially in the bar area with the high tops. Located in the old Catherine Rooney's (also formerly Hamilton's). The Green Mansion is new, but has a very limited menu...plus if it is raining that pretty much rules out their patio.

Stone Balloon Winehouse/Alehouse has closed...replaced with 322 BBQ, which also closed. South Main (formerly Elkton Rd) has The Green Turtle (which moved across the street to the Park n Shop), but Pat's Pizza and their newish bourbon bar closed.

Hope to see some familiar faces tomorrow and to meet several new ones. Will stop by the BHTC...might even join up again. I joined a few years ago, but didn't have the time to make many events...have a bit more time these days.

Go Hens!

The July 10 Party in the CUSA event has been postponed due to weather concerns. It is rescheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 5pm-8pm, on South Campus, in conjunction with UD's Annual Movie Night.

It was probably the best decision to cancel given the odds, but that outlier forecast seems to be the accurate one. Dry here in Newark right now, and the rain seems to be passing to the South of us.

Info, I'll keep an eye out for a future gig.
