JMU and their transfer portal

Post by 72 Hen »

JMU, our old foe, just completed their best season ever. As a result they lost almost the entire starting offense.

QB - Portal
RB - Portal
WR - Graduated
WR - Still on team
WR - Graduated
TE - Portal
LT - Portal
LG - Still on team
C - Graduated
RG - Portal
RT - Graduated

Life as a G5 is hard. JMU has deep pockets but no way they bring these guys back. I wonder how many of their best players said they were coming back?

the loss of JMU's FB HC was probably a significant factor in the departures.

Yes, that is a big reason.

I think those players are using their success this year to make some money. Losing their coach is tough, but Billy Napier isn't a slouch. Having an SEC coach come into the Sun Belt I'd like to think he will be just as successful as the previous once he has some time to re-work the roster after departures. He was mediocre at Florida, but I think he does well at JMU. Somehow they always re-tool and continue to be successful.

Definitely a combo of another coaching change - Chesney was only there two years I think, and capitalizing on making $. JMU I believe is more well-off NIL wise than UD, but JMU can’t compete with P4 exposure and money.
UD to FBS. I never thought I’d see the day

That and they're absolutely gouging the student body with fees to prop up the athletic dept.

Meh...UD charges Engineering students an extra $4,000/year. Nursing students pay extra, too, as do a couple other majors.

Why?

Because, UD can.

JMU can charge a fee because students ('parents) will pay it. A buddy of mine's daughter goes to JMU and he is happy to brag about the school's athletics while paying the out-of-state tuition (UD could have had her, but they didn't give any scholarship money).

Oh, well. You get what you pay for. :D

Boy, JMU has a heck of an AD. He didn’t miss a step after Cignetti left for Indiana along with a bunk of JMU players. Next coach leaves after two years for a big job and true to form he quickly signs Billy Napier. If we ever get a full time AD I hope he or she can do half as well.

CluckU, The extra fees for those UD Majors that charge them directly benefit the students in those majors. Athletic Fees only directly benefit student athletes and athletic coaches, support personnel, facilities, etc. and do not directly benefit students who are not student athletes.
